Absolutely pure gold and reminding me of the 2009 (or is it the 2010?), the 2020 Château Smith Haut Lafitte sports a dense purple hue to go with incredible aromatics of blackberries, blueberries, scorched earth, wood smoke, and acacia flowers. One of the most concentrated, rich, and sexy wines in the vintage, this massive and extraordinarily opulent 2020 shows the vintage's pure, elegant profile yet backs it up with sensational levels of fruit and texture. Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it already offers pleasure given its wealth of fruit, but it deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will evolve for 40-50 years. Not enough can be said about the quality of these wines. Bravo to Florence and Daniel Cathiard, as well as to director Fabien Teitgen, for another incredible achievement.Inc. TAX€1,639.16 -

Tertre de la Mouleyre 2020 exemplifies the pinnacle of winemaking craftsmanship, hailing from the esteemed vineyards nestled in the heart of Bordeaux’s Médoc region. Handcrafted by the revered Domaine de la Mouleyre, this vintage is a meticulous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, sourced from terroirs with optimal sun exposure and well-drained gravel soils. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, the wine undergoes a precise maceration process to extract depth and complexity. It is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, imparting subtle notes of vanilla and spice while allowing the fruit to flourish. The 2020 harvest benefited from a favourable climate, resulting in grapes of exceptional balance and concentration. Tertre de la Mouleyre 2020 offers a harmonious bouquet of dark berries, cedar, and tobacco, culminating in a velvety, long-lasting finish. A quintessential expression of fine Bordeaux, it promises to delight discerning palates for years to come.

One of the wines of the vintage will be the 2020 Château Tertre Roteboeuf, which has its classic exotic, boisterous, incredibly sexy personality front and center. Cassis, smoked meats, vanilla, graphite, white truffle, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality are just some of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredibly purity, building tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. I followed this barrel sample for just under a week and it never showed a hint of oxidation or fatigue. This cuvée always shows lots of oak (it’s brought up in 100% new barrels), especially in its youth, but it is incredibly well-integrated and largely disappears once at full maturity. Hide bottles for 7-8 years if you can, and it’s going to keep for 30 years or more.Inc. TAX€1,158.94
