Aile d'Argent 2017 (6x75cl) James Suckling (95-96)The impressive ripeness and intensity combined with elegance and finesse are what make this wonderful white. Honeysuckle, apricots, glazed grapefruit, spices and nutmeg. Medium to full body and fleshy fruit that’s lifted by the delicious acidity to the long finish.

Alter Ego de Palmer 2010 (12x75cl) Wine Spectator (92-95)Velvety and inviting, with lovely dark plum and blackberry fruit, followed by a long, caressing finish. This has some grip too, but it's nicely integrated. Should have some staying power. Tasted non-blind. Score range: 92-95

2019 |
Alter Ego de Palmer 2019 (12x37.5cl) Decanter (95)Gorgeous rich dark purple in the glass. Quite jammy and concentrated on the nose, heady and perfumed with a lovely delicate florality to it too. Great freshness on the palate, juicy but a dark blackcurrant and cherry fruit juice. Beautifully balanced with integrated tannins and oak. Well defined fruit, generous and quite abundant against softly grippy, velvety tannins that just give support to the overall frame. It's serious but with a lightness of touch and playfulness - energetic and lively but still with depth. A great Alter Ego and confident winemaking on show.

Angelus 1992 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (88)What a surprise in an incredibly difficult year! Angelus has turned out a fully mature wine that needs to be drunk up over the next 3-4 years, but notes of olive, black cherry, and currant are present, along with some leafy, fern-like, forest smells. The wine is medium-bodied, soft, and one of the undeniable successes for this miserable vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-2007. Last tasted, 4/02.

Angelus 1998 (1x150cl) Wine Advocate (98)The 1998 Angélus, a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc and 60% Merlot, is deep garnet colored with a touch of brick. The nose is completely...WOW! It has an incredible array of smoked meats, incense, cigar box and dusty earth notions over a core of baked cherries, dried mulberries, preserved plums and dried roses with wafts of lavender, menthol and new leather. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich, intense and packed with black fruit preserves accented by complex savory and earth-inspired flavors, supported by wonderful freshness, textured by plush tannins and finishing with fantastic tension. This still has loads of life—25+ more years!

2005 |
Angelus 2005 (12x75cl) Jeb Dunnuck (100)The 2005 Angelus is as good as it gets, and despite having 2-3 decades of prime drinking ahead of it, is as profound a drinking experience as money can buy even today. Offering off the hook notes of blackcurrants, smoked herbs, blackberries, toasted spice, espresso and scorched earth, this beauty is unctuous and opulent on the palate, with incredible depth, yet never seems heavy, cumbersome or over the top. It has more depth and concentration than the 1990 (and I suspect any vintage in the 1990s or 2000s) and will keep for another 30 years or more.
