Louis Jadot
About Maison Louis Jadot
A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

The 2023 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is more cohesive and complex than the Chapelle-Chambertin. Boasting dark berry fruit, bay leaf and touches of Earl Grey, it is very composed. The palate is medium-bodied, very graceful and harmonious, with sappy red fruit and a silver thread of acidity leading to a peacock's tail toward the finish. This is one of Jadot's best Côte de Nuits cuvées in 2023.Inc. TAX€3,478.54 -

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru showed more reduction on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares: brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, and light forest floor aromas blossom in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, velvety smooth with maraschino cherries, marmalade and touches of fresh fig. This is quite exotic towards the finish. By direct comparison, the aforementioned Grand Cru has a little more composure and restraint and perhaps handled the warmth of the growing season better. Still, it's a lovely Amoureuses.Inc. The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses (Domaine Louis Jadot) is the most aromatic wine in the range, bursting with notes of rose petals, orange zest, musky spices and sweet red berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed palate that's satiny and saline.Inc. Opening in the glass with aromas of cherries, red plums and cassis mingled with subtle hints of coniferous forest floor, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes (Maison Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with an open-knit core of succulent fruit framed by melting tannins. Attractively balanced and immediate but only moderately concentrated, this Charmes boasts considerable near- to mid-term appeal.Inc. TAX€468.72 -

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Feusselottes 1er Cru has a perfumed nose of kirsch, orange zest and Indian ink aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red fruit, and very harmonious, the fine acidity counterbalancing the precocity. Silky in texture, revealing gorgeous dark plum and boysenberry notes toward the persistent finish. Excellent.Inc. TAX€647.74 -

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Fuesselottes 1er Cru has a complex and generous bouquet: dense red berry fruit, smoke, cigar box and touches of dried blood. Good deep red. Subdued nose hints at musky minerality and exotic herbs. The stone, spice and herbal flavors show terrific lift from calcaire; this is rather like sucking on rocks today. Medium red. Powerfully mineral aromas of dark berries, orange zest, floral oils and crushed stone. The palate offers great class and lift, showing superb definition to the flavors of red berries, minerals and botanical herbs. This razor-sharp Chambolle finishes with terrific rising perfume. With extended time in the recorked bottle, the wine showed distinctly darker berry character, with captivating violet and mint high notes. A beauty.Inc. TAX€712.08 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)
Medium red, less bright than the Feusselottes. Reticent nose hints at crushed stone. Silky-sweet on entry, then surprisingly open-knit in the middle, with sweet berry and mineral flavors carrying nicely through a broad, fine-grained finish. Has the stuffing to support its smooth tannins. (My sample of the Chambolle-Musigny Baudes was locked up tight and in a dry phase; it will require revisiting next year in bottle.)Inc. TAX€594.94 -

Saturated deep red. Superripe yet sappy aromas of black and red fruits, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Then extremely suave and refined on the palate, and distinctly red in character, with dense strawberry, raspberry and crushed stone flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Ripe but classically dry wine, finishing with lovely tangy floral lift, fine-grained tannins and terrific cut. This is Jadot's vinification, and it shows!Inc. TAX€837.66 -

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru shows more reduction than the Les Baudes, and consequently, I find this warm and more difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more sorbet-like than the Les Baudes and slightly candied towards the finish but without quite the same pedigree. However, it should still drink well for a number of years.Inc. TAX€813.34 -

Frédéric Barnier notes that Fuées does not suffer in the dry years whereas the clay in Baudes can block the water supply. A clear pure crimson purple.
