France
The vast and diverse wine regions of France, each with its own unique terroirs, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques, are a treasure trove.
In Bordeaux, the birthplace of some of the world's most iconic wines, esteemed vineyards such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Haut-Brion produce exceptional red wines, showcasing the art of blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The region is also renowned for its exquisite white wines, with vineyards like Château d'Yquem and Domaine de Chevalier producing legendary sweet wines.
Moving to Burgundy, the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine Armand Rousseau capture the essence of the region's revered terroir, crafting exquisite red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. Meanwhile, Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Coche-Dury are celebrated for their world-class white wines, predominantly made from Chardonnay.
The Champagne region, known for its sparkling wines, boasts illustrious houses such as Krug, Dom Pérignon, and Moët & Chandon, as well as grower-producers like Pierre Péters and Jacques Selosse. These vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines using the traditional method, offering a symphony of delicate bubbles, elegant flavors, and vibrant acidity.
In the Rhône Valley, iconic vineyards like Chapoutier, E. Guigal, and Château de Beaucastel produce remarkable red wines in the northern appellations of Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, showcasing the elegance and power of Syrah. Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.
In Alsace, vineyards such as Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and omaine Trimbach craft exquisite white wines, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, expressing the region's unique terroir and varietal character.
These are just a few highlights among the diverse array of wines that France offers. From the Loire Valley's crisp whites and elegant reds to the Languedoc-Roussillon's bold and robust wines, each region presents its own vinous treasures.

Vinous (93+)Very closed nose hints at wet stone. Rich and ripe in the mouth, with palate-saturating flavors of crushed stone and orange. As lush and sweet as this is, it avoids crossing over to exotic. Very deep and very young: should age very well for a 2006. |

Vinous (94)Deep but bright aromas of crushed stone and cherry-almond. Fat and opulent; stuffed with soft citrus, spice and stone flavors. A wine of impressive volume, power and fullness but rather backward today. Finishes with lovely balance and superb length. Despite the wine's sheer size and ripeness, the terroir of Rougeots dominates the vintage. |

Vinous (94)The 2020 Meursault Rougeots has a razor-sharp bouquet with yellow plum, honeysuckle and jasmine, very complex for Village Cru (though it has form!). The palate is beautifully balanced with fine acidity, waxy in texture, almond and orange pith mixed with a touch of stem ginger towards the composed yet persistent finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (93)Sexy aromas of peach and grilled nuts, plus the sulfidey complexity shown by so many of Coche's wines. Then ripe, supple and dry, with lovely lift and clarity to the mineral and floral flavors. Wonderfully juicy, pure wine with a very long, vibrant back end. |

Vinous (91+)Bright yellow. High-toned, lively aromas of peach and brown spices. Then tight for this wine in the early going, showing less opulence today than the Meursault Rougeots. Less fleshy than the young 2012 version but fine-grained and long, with good energy for the vintage. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignieres has a light apple blossom and lime-scented bouquet that needed some encouragement from the glass. It comes across more backward when compared to the 2015 Meursault Rougeot or Narvaux that preceded this wine at the domaine tasting. The palate offers candied orange peel on the entry that gallivants about with mandarin and grapefruit. It is hot-wired with a killer line of acidity that imbues this Puligny with supreme energy. The finish is pleasantly saline and offers a cheeky dab of lemongrass on the aftertaste. This is just superb. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignières is especially successful this year, bursting from the glass with notes of crisp stone fruits, white flowers, blanched almonds, pastry cream and sesame oil. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and striking purity and precision, it's an elegant, penetrating wine that stands out even in this very compelling portfolio. |
