Château Valandraud was founded by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud in 1989. This small St. Emilion property has steadily grown its land holdings since. They mostly produce Merlot dominated reds and a small amount of white. In 2012 they were upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé B, recognising their vast progress.

Jean-Luc Thunevin is a Saint-Émilion garageist who has made Château Valandraud world famous as a boutique production, Merlot dominated Saint- Émilion. Early vintages of Valandraud were literally made in a garage, the property have no winery of its own! The first vintages of Valandraud comprised no more than 100 cases. Today Valandraud is widely collected and the hard to find back vintages have risen in price steeply. The estate has 10 hectares of vines planted to 70 % Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and small portions of Malbec and Carmenere. Two of those hectares are devoted to the production of white Bordeaux wine grapes, which are planted as follows: 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Gris. The parcels are located in various areas in Saint-Émilion.
