Castello Romitorio

About Castello Romitorio

Castello Romitorio has a rich history, dating back to Roman times, and its tenure as a wine-producing estate began when artist, Sandro Chia, purchased the castle in 1984 to be used as his place of residence and as an art studio. During that time, producers of Brunello were caught in a state of flux, torn between making Brunellos that stayed true to tradition and forging a new identity for Brunello. Being the artist, Sandro was quick to draw inspiration from this and painstakingly rejuvenated the abandoned vineyards of his new property, making them his new 16-hectare canvas to capture his own expression of Brunello.

Sandro was able to strike the perfect balance, staying rooted in preserving the pristine surroundings of the castle and also experimenting with international varieties. The estate now produces 7 wines, 6 of which are 100% Sangiovese and the remaining being a blend of Petit Verdot and Syrah.
