About Domaine Henri Gouges
Domaine Henri Gouges’ wines are always built to last and are a cornerstone for any serious cellar. Production is small and, no matter what the vintage, demand is always high. The Gouges family established the current domaine in Nuits-St-Georges in 1919 and they still have a few bottles from their first vintages in the 1920s. Now joined by the next generation, Gregory Gouges, the historical house style is slowly changing and we found it more focused on the fruit rather than on the oak allowing the vineyards to show their distinct personalities.

This is very ripe and slightly gourmand on the nose, light savory notes emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, nicely controlled and then just tightening up towards the finish that shows just a bit of VA. Quite dense of a Pruliers, give this some time in the cellar. |

This remains exuberant, especially juxtaposed against the 1996 Clos des Porrets. The palate is fleshy and rounded with plenty of dark berry fruit laced with brine and clove. There is impressive persistence to this Les Saint-Georges, one of the domains finest of the decade. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte. |

Like liquid silk in the mouth; already shows its great depth, but the highly complex, soil-inflected flavors of black raspberry, dark chocolate, leather and fresh blood are still youthfully reserved. Most impressive today on the remarkably sappy, precise finish, which builds slowly and subtly and is given even greater penetration and grip by a suggestion of grapefruit. This seems to "grow" in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins. It’s very pure, so pure that it almost disguises the backbone of this Les Saint-Georges, gaining depth towards the finish with touches of pain d'épice and white pepper. An excellent NSG that will repay cellaring. |

Very sexy and suave on the long if somewhat youthfully imploded finish. This complete premier cru should last for a long time in a cool cellar. Despite the fact that the Gouges family picked very early in 2015, Antoine Gouges describes the wines as very ripe but not quite candied or overripe, with the structure for a long life in bottle. He added that the estate's '15s were bottled with around 13% alcohol. |
