Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2014 (1x75cl) Vinous (92+)Bright medium red. Wild perfume of strawberry, raspberry, pepper, caramel and earth. Lovely precision and lift to the tangy raspberry, cherry and spice flavors complicated by saline minerality. Quite tight today, showing a restrained sweetness. Finishes with firm-edged, slightly tough tannins and excellent length. A very good vintage for this grand cru blend.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2015 (1x75cl) Vinous (93)The 2015 Corton Grand Cru was cropped at 22.30hl/ha on 5 September. I feel that the more that Aubert and his team have worked this parcel, the more it becomes an integral part of the “family”. It has such a pretty, vivacious bouquet with vivid red cherries, bergamot and crushed strawberry. It is extremely very well defined and with a subtle tincture of orange blossom and rose petals. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with just a light tang of spice. This Corton already feels very cohesive and unerringly approachable thanks to the lightness of touch towards the tertiary finish. Delightful is the word that immediately springs to mind.

2016 |
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2016 (1x75cl) Wine Advocate (94)Surpassing the 2015 rendition, the 2016 Corton Grand Cru is the finest wine that the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti has produced to date from the holdings of Prince Florent de Mérode. Wafting from the glass with notes of cassis, currant leaf, raspberries and menthol, discretely framed by new wood, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and intense, gaining in depth and dimension as it sits in the glass, with tangy underpinning acids and powdery tannins, culminating in a long finish. Aubert de Villaine recounted that the Domaine replanted a third of Corton-Bressandes while also grafting over the Mérodes' young vines to their own massal selections of Pinot Fin. While this is built for four decade's evolution in the cellar, the balance and concentration are such that it could be drunk with pleasure in its youth.

2018 |
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2018 (1x75cl) Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Corton Grand Cru contains fruit from plots of replanted vines for the first time this year, and also 80% whole bunches. Bertrand de Villaine told me that the blending was done a little later than their other crus. Matured in 100% new oak, it has an attractive bouquet of brambly red fruit, blueberry and scents of crushed stone, all nicely detailed. The palate is taut on the entry with an almost chalky texture and notes of bitter cherries and black currants. Fine symmetry toward the finish. Excellent.

2019 |
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2019 (3x75cl) Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)The 2019 Corton Grand Cru, which is seen as a transitional vintage by de Villaine, is the usual blend of three parcels and matured entirely in new oak. It was picked on September 19 in tandem with the Grands Echézeaux, yielding 15hl/ha. The perfumed bouquet offers vibrant red berry fruit infused with potpourri and incense, all displaying wonderful delineation; touches of orange pith develop with time. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, with strict tannins, a mélange of red and black fruit and a potent saline tincture toward the refined finish. Quite open and generous. It should drink after two or three years in bottle.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 1989 (3x75cl) Wine Spectator (90)Firm, tight and intense, with rich, sharply focused flavors that are smooth and lively. A tasty core of black cherry, plum and currant notes is shaded by smoky, cedary oak nuances. Balanced, firmly tannic and drinkable now, but almost sure to improve thr 1,700 cases made. -

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2000 (1x75cl) Wine Advocate (92)The Echézeaux 2000 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti won the hearts of everyone around the table–one of those wines that you just cannot help falling for. It has a dark garnet core with thin bricking on the rim. The nose is actually reminiscent of a fine Musigny from de Vogüé, a little introverted at first but it's just kidding with you and bursts open with infectious joie de vivre. The palate is medium-bodied, quite linear at first with superb tension and energy. No, it is not as complex as the Grands Echézeaux 2000 but that Loire-like, sappy finish is beguiling. Drink now and enjoy over the next 15 years. Given the growing season this performs way above expectations.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2003 (1x150cl) Wine Advocate (95)Unquestionably the finest Echezeaux I have encountered from this famed estate, the 2003 explodes from the glass with candied raspberries, violet, and red cherries. Stunningly marrying elegance with richness and density, this medium to full-bodied wine is ample, pure, and velvety-textured. Loads of sweet red fruits are found in its persistent, sensual character. Drink it over the next 12-14 years.

2005 |
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2005 (1x75cl) Jancis Robinson (18.5)Mid blueish crimson with quite a pale rim. Light nose initially with a hint of undergrowth but lots of ripe sweetness underneath. Jewel bright, so bright, fruit – not that intense, but very winning, and it opened up in the glass becoming more intense and super-bright cherry fruity with the merest hint of espresso. Marked acidity on the palate is the first impression and then some oak tannin still. Very, very youthful – much more introspective than I remember the 2004s at this stage. Even severe. You take this on faith at this stage because the fruit weight is not sufficient to distract from all the infant aspects of acid and tannin.

2007 |
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2007 (6x75cl) Jancis Robinson (18.5)Gentle spice, hint of cigar box and delicate oak spice aromas and something perfumed and almost exotic, a little like sandalwood, opening up to spiced red fruit and candied orange-peel freshness. Already so multi-faceted and open on the nose. Very tangy and finely spiced on the palate too. There’s density and elegant tannic structure but so well dressed in light but fine fruit that you barely see the framework. Fine spicy grip on the long fresh finish. Silky, scented, gorgeous. The most approachable of the 2007 grands crus tasted alongside.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2009 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (94)The 2009 Échézeaux Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of wild berries and plums mingled with peonies, exotic spices and hints of wood smoke. Full-bodied, deep and complete, with velvety tannins and an enveloping core of fruit, it's sumptuous but serious, with lively acids and a long, resonant finish. This is a concentrated, youthfully muscular Échézeaux that is still a few years away from showing all its cards.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2010 (6x75cl) Vinous (93-95)Things really take off with the 2010 Echézeaux, which is a meaningful step up from the earlier wines in this tasting. The 2010 surprises for its size and sheer volume. It boasts phenomenal depth and richness in its intense dark red fruit. The sheer energy and vibrancy of the fruit is remarkable. A huge, explosive finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. This is a great showing from the Echézeaux, even if the 2010 is notably bigger than is typical for this bottling. The Echézeaux was the last fruit to be picked in 2010.

Rich and explosive on the palate, yet backed up with significant structure and pure intensity, the 2011 is firing on all cylinders. First and foremost, the Échézeaux is a wine of pure texture. Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl) Vinous (95)The 2015 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru was cropped at 30.42hl/ha on 11 and 12 September. It has a glorious bouquet that springs from the glass: Morello cherries, crushed strawberry, crushed stone, just a hint of bay leaf all beautifully defined and with a little more horsepower than the Echézeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry and comes across more saline in the mouth than its “little brother”. There is a pinch of spice that becomes more prominent with aeration and then against my expectations, it becomes understated and quite linear on the finish. One of the more backward 2015s from the domaine this year, I would cellar this for four or five years at least; a Grands Echézeaux that is full of secrets.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2017 (1x75cl) Vinous (94)The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru is similarly lifted, with a bit darker fruit and more structure than the Corton. A deceptive, beguiling Burgundy, the 2017 shows the mid-weight structure of the year. Here too, time in the glass brings out the wine’s vertical feel and overall intensity. The 2017 needs time to soften, but it is incredibly persistent and impeccable in its balance. Readers should expect an especially austere Echézeaux that is going to require cellaring. The fruit was brought in on September 13 and 15, with a day’s break in between because of rain.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl) Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very deep hue. The extraordinarily pure bouquet features black cherries intermingling with blueberry and oyster shell, and later a hint of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, edgy and stony, with dark berry fruit and a little spicier than I recall apropos of previous Echézeaux at this stage. It might just need a little length, but otherwise it is a wine determined not to be outshone by its Grand Cru siblings.
