Dauzac
This fifth growth from Margaux gives the first growths a run for its money in certain vintages, especially in the less powerful ones. Chateau Dauzac has been managed by the Andre Lurton group since 1992, and the increased attention to the fruit has produced wines that are ripe, rich and can cellar well.

Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)The 2020 Dauzac has a harmonious black cherry, boysenberry and cedar bouquet, touches of iodine and violets emerging with aeration; this nose has a lot of panache. The palate is medium-bodied and quit dense, offering supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and superb mineralité and breeding on the finish, which is almost pixelated in style. This is an outstanding Margaux from the Dauzac team, one that punches above its weight. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93)Deep purple-hued, the 2023 Château Dauzac offers beautiful depth and density in its cassis and lively berry fruits as well as spicy oak, graphite, and liquid violet-like aromatics. It's medium-bodied, has a concentrated, balanced, nicely structured mouthfeel, plenty of ripe, polished tannins, and exceptional purity. Based on 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Merlot and aged 15 months in French oak barrels (65% new) with 10% in amphora, it will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and is going to cruise for at least two decades. It's impressive, and this is a château to watch. Drink 2029-2046. |
