Albert Bichot Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (91-93)

The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was picked on 28 September, includes 30% whole bunch fruit and matured in 40% new oak. It has a clean, fresh and vibrant bouquet with red cherry, cranberry leaf and fine mineralité coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, impressive depth, quite saline in the mouth with a pinch of spice/black pepper toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Clos de la Roche that should age with style.

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

Burghound (91-93)

(from a .72 ha parcel). Moderate reduction is enough to knock down the expressiveness and nuances of the earthy and ripe dark berry fruit scents. There is by contrast very good freshness and energy on the delicious and nicely detailed middle weight flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere, serious and very firmly structured finale. This doesn’t have the sheer class and weight of the Malconsorts but it’s still promising. (91-93)/2039+

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

Burghound (93-95)

This too is quite ripe with its liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, spice and floral hints that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The velvety, supple and quite round flavors coat the palate with dry extract that also pushes the moderately firm tannins to the background on the slightly warm finish where the wood resurfaces. While the structure is such that this will certainly age for years, the acidity seems to be on the lower side and though this is by no means soft or flabby, the finish doesn't have the vibrancy of the best here.

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru was picked on 27 September and includes 40% whole bunch and the same percentage of new oak. It has a brisk dark cherry and cranberry-scented bouquet, touches of blood orange and mandarin emerging with time. Not bad at all considering how this grand cru was damaged by frost. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, quite sharp tannin and very fine acidity. While it does not quite bestow the depth and structure on the finish of the 2015, this is a well-crafted grand cru that should be considered a success and a worthy follow-up to the 2015.

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

Vinous (92-94)

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from the lieu-dit of Les Champs Traversins, has a well-defined bouquet of raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, loamy/sous-bois scents and a touch of wilted iris petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, crisp acidity and a lightly spiced finish. This is a well-crafted Echézeaux from Bichot/Clos Frantin, and it should give 15–20 years’ drinking pleasure, possibly more.

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Vosne-Romanee 2019 (6x75cl)

Burghound (89-92)

(the blend is mostly from Damaudes with a small proportion of Basses Maizières). A fresh, cool and restrained nose combines notes of cherry, plum and a whiff of spiced tea. I very much like the texture of the nicely detailed and quite powerful medium weight flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere, and sneaky long finish that displays fine complexity. This is an impressive Vosne villages and worth your interest. (89-92)/2029+
