Since its creation in 1997, Bond estate's wines have come to compete with Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle at Napa’s very top table of cult-following, micro-production wines. Having made his name with the eponymous Oakville estate Harlan Estate, in 1997 Bill Harlan started assembling a team of top wine-growers and wine-makers to embark on a new venture. This was nothing less than an audacious attempt to create new ‘Grand Cru’ Bordeaux blend wines from the best parcels across Napa Valley. Bond is a terroir-driven project. Harlan has selected only 5 parcels (out of the more than 80 vineyards they have worked with over twenty five years) because they vividly demonstrate the range of Napa Valley's finest terroirs. The 5 tiny hillside estates (ranging from 7 to 11 hectares) are therefore all quite different.
