The Montevertine 2022 Le Pergole Torte is 100% Sangiovese made in a similar winemaking style as the others, although both botte and barrique are used here. It opens to a dark garnet appearance that is velvety and rich yet shiny on the inside with a ruby brightness that is specific to this Tuscan grape. This is an amazing wine, so precise and balanced. I love the boldness of the vintage, and I am delighted by how elegantly it unfolds over the palate. The wine is contoured and pretty in terms of texture, and yet there are mineral notes that add freshness and vertical lift. This portfolio offers good scale with three wines, an entry-level, middle-level and top-end wine, each offering a distinct identity. Production is 30,000 bottles. This is one of my favorite wines from 2022, a vintage with highs and lows. This is definitely a high. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98+)The 2021 Le Pergole Torte is a real stunner. Rich, deep and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2021 is captivating from the very first taste. In bottle, this is quite a bit more reticent than it was as a barrel sample, which, in my view, is a positive. Even so, readers should be prepared to cellar the 2021 for a number of years at a minimum. |

Wine Advocate (98)Here is another masterpiece from vintner Martino Manetti (and winemaker Paolo Salvi, following in the footsteps of long-time key figures Giulio Gambelli and Estate Manager Bruno Bini). The Montevertine 2022 Le Pergole Torte is 100% Sangiovese made in a similar winemaking style as the others, although both botte and barrique are used here. It opens to a dark garnet appearance that is velvety and rich yet shiny on the inside with a ruby brightness that is specific to this Tuscan grape. This is an amazing wine, so precise and balanced. I love the boldness of the vintage, and I am delighted by how elegantly it unfolds over the palate. The wine is contoured and pretty in terms of texture, and yet there are mineral notes that add freshness and vertical lift. This portfolio offers good scale with three wines, an entry-level, middle-level and top-end wine, each offering a distinct identity. Production is 30,000 bottles. This is one of my favorite wines from 2022, a vintage with highs and lows. This is definitely a high. |

Vinous (96)The 2016 Montevertine will thrill fans of the estate's wines. Freshly cut flowers, dark cherry, plum, mint and spice are some of the many notes that are knit together in a Montevertine that dazzles with nuance and pedigree. The 2016 is not an obvious wine, but it has class and persistence to burn, with tannins that are incredibly finessed for a young wine. Quite simply, the 2016 is one of the very finest Montevertines in recent memory. The 2016 was memorable from cask last year. It is every bit as riveting today. The 2016 spent two years in casks ranging size from 5.5HL to 18HL, with both Slavonian and French oak. Don't miss it. |

Vinous (96)The 2017 Montevertine is rich, creamy and beautifully resonant on the palate. Over the last year it seems to have gained an extra bit of freshness, which is of course such a plus in this very hot, dry vintage. Montevertine is often austere, but the 2017 is unusually open today, not to mention incredibly delicious. There is plenty of tannin beneath all of that vintage 2017 fruit. Even so, opening a bottle young is not a crime by any stretch of the imagination. Black cherry, leather, sweet pipe tobacco, licorice and earthy notes develop with aeration, showing just a glimpse of what is in store for those who can wait. The 2017 is a striking wine in every sense. Floral notes reappear on the finish, adding further dimensions that will continue to unfold over the coming years. |

The 2019 Montevertine is made with a careful selection of fruit (with 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino) from across various parcels located at a cool 400 to 550 meters in elevation. Compared to the Le Pergole Torte, which remains more closed and initially shy, the Montevertine currently soars over the senses with delicate berry and wild fruit aromas with mineral, blue flower and candied orange peel. The mouthfeel is extremely fine, but that smoothness leaves a lasting impression. Happily, there are 34,000 bottles on the market. |
