The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers is virtually seamless on the palate, with superb depth and a level of explosive energy that is simply compelling. There is more than enough density to support many years of exceptional drinking. In 2013, the Gruenchers stands out for its persistence and overall balance.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2013 Echézeaux is one of the most open, expressive wines in the range today. Silky tannins and a pliant, resonant mid-palate convey an impression of suppleness that is unusual, even for Echézeaux. That theme continues through to a beautifully sculpted, generous finish. I expect the 2013 will drink well relatively early for a Grand Cru.

Bright, dark red. Sexy high-toned lift to the aromas of raspberry, cocoa powder and spicecake, complicated by a minty nuance. Silky and intense on entry, then utterly primary in the middle, with urgent crushed red fruit and spice flavors that are almost too big for the mouth. The explosive finish features strong, noble tannins and outstanding rising length. This wine began in two new 225-liter barriques and was then racked into one new and one one-year-old barrel in October.

Inky ruby. Candied dark fruits, potpourri and olive on the nose, complemented by lively mineral and black pepper overtones. Deep-pitched cherry and blackberry flavors unfold slowly with air, picking up a subtle floral nuance and a touch of licorice. Closes chewy and long, displaying slow-building, youthful tannins and lingering spiciness.

Deep red with ruby highlights. Riper and blacker but a bit monolithic on the nose and palate. Black cherry and licorice scents lead to dark raspberry and crushed stone in the mouth. Not at all herbal but in a very cool style and tightly wound. This powerful, backward, youthfully uncompromising wine is hard to taste today owing to its firm tannic spine and strong medicinal reserve. Will it ultimately surpass the more sensual Grands-Echézeaux?

Bright medium red. Deep, musky nose combines cranberry, raspberry, cardamom, faded rose and crushed stone. Sweet, seamless and energetic, offering almost painful cut to the tart red berry, spice and musky underbrush flavors. Outstanding savory lift in the middle palate. Wonderfully lightness of touch here. Very backward wine with all the Cos de Bèze food groups: red fruits, minerals, spices, flowers, crushed stone. Stains the palate and leaves the taste buds quivering on the very long, firm finish. But still a baby today and in need of a decade of cellaring.

Good deep red. Wild black cherry, licorice, crushed herbs, earth and a smoky nuance on the nose. Sweet on entry, then cool and medicinal in the mid-palate, with black cherry and licorice flavors dominating. Faiveley will bottle this very backward wine considerably later than the Echézeaux, probably in June, notes Hervet. Finishes quite tight, with a serious tannic spine calling for extended cellaring.

Surprisingly smooth and fine-grained on entry, with its almost velvety texture enlivened by notes of fresh herbs, licorice, dried flowers and medicinal black cherry. Offers an attractive combination of subtle sweetness and salinity, conveying clear if subtle soil tones; more black fruits than red. Ultimately a midweight for this bottling. This may not possess quite the density or sweetness to buffer its dusty tannins, at least in the early going, but it's very young and still imploded, and displays considerable power for the vintage. From a very late harvest, beginning on October 2. (13.15% alcohol; 3.4 pH; 3.7 g/l acidity; 41 h/h yield)

Good deep red. Aromas and flavors of black raspberry and espresso are sexed up by a wild gamey character. Very fine-grained and expressive in the mouth, with the wine's subtle sweetness nicely complemented by saline minerality. A classic Mazis for the cellar, with its animal aspect leavened by nervy acidity and serious medicinal reserve. Has the tannic spine to ensure a slow evolution. I may be underrating this superb grand cru.

Burghound (95-98)

A very pungent nose displays plenty of wood and menthol influences on the quite firmly reduced aromas. There is superb richness and intensity to the seductively textured mineral-inflected flavors that are at once powerful yet refined before culminating a very backward, concentrated and stunningly long finish that just goes on and on. This is exceptionally promising and should also live for decades. In a word, brilliant.

Medium red. Aromas of cherry, blueberry, raspberry and menthol. Tangy and savory, offering good cut but modest flesh to the flavors of black cherry, pungent red berries, licorice and menthol. Finishes a touch green, with fine-grained tannins and a note of tart red cherry.

Wine Enthusiast (94)

This wine is a success for the vintage with its ripe Cabernet flavors and dark, dense tannins. It is fruity certainly, with a juicy, perfumed background. However, the structure and texture show best—firm and dry, indicating a good potential. This concentrated wine will not be ready to drink before 2024.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-92)

The 2013 Fleur Cardinale is a huge wine. Blood orange, pomegranate, white pepper and bright red cherries all explode from the glass. Unapologetically rich and intense, the 2013 is beautifully layered and voluptuous to the core. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2013 has been impressive on all three occasions I have tasted it so far. The blend is 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Fonplegade 2013 encapsulates the very essence of Saint Émilion, a heralded wine region in Bordeaux, France. Grown in vineyards with limestone and clay soils, this vintage boasts a harmonious blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. Its creator, Fonplegade, leverages an organic viticulture approach that accentuates the wine's character and provenance.

Matures in French oak barrels for supreme texture and flavour, this vintage Flemingate 2013 delivers a long and unerringly pure finish. Regarded as one of the most refined offerings from Fonplegade, this wine offers a unique glimpse into the prestigious terroir of Saint Émilion.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (85-87)

The 2013 Fonroque comes across as a bit compact, with limited depth and complexity. Sweet red berries, hard candy, flowers and tobacco take shape nicely in the glass, but the mid-palate never really blossoms, which allows the oak tannin to dominate.

Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru (which comes from the lieu-dit of En Orveaux) has a slight reduction on the nose, but beneath lies fine redcurrant and iodine scents that should be quite intense once in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, fleshy tannins, crisp acidity and good density on the finish. This is a very fine Echézeaux in the making, though I suspect that the 2012 will be the one to seek out.

Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring.

Dark red with ruby highlights. Aromas of blueberry, raspberry, leather and game, lifted by a crushed stone element. In a supple, ripe style, but with terrific sappy intensity and lift to the crushed raspberry and mineral flavors. The tannins are fine-grained and sweet. A stunning example of this calcaire-rich premier cru.

Vinous (86-88)

Bright medium red. Black cherry, brown spices and a medicinal note on the slightly minty nose. Juicy flavors of crushed cranberry and pomegranate show slightly tart-edged acidity.

Vinous (91+)

(a blend of Charmes and Mazoyères): Dark red. In a very ripe style (as usual for this cuvée, notes Magnien), hinting at black cherry, licorice pastille and damp earth. Quite rich and deep; this wine might well offer early appeal just for its atypical sweetness but its powerful, rather monolithic tannins shut down the fruit on the back end.

Wine Advocate (96)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru was showing some quality new oak on the nose that still needs to be subsumed. It is tightly coiled but it just needs time because there is freshness, definition and beguiling complexity locked in here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well judged acidity and clever use of new oak lending body without compromising terroir expression. The finish feels focused and satisfying and the texture leaves you totally seduced. Class, class, class. Tasted September 2016.

Wine Advocate (89-91)

From vines just behind the maison towards the Route Nationale, the 2013 Vosne Romanée has a precise bouquet, dark berries and a touch of black tea, fine delineation here and poise. The palate is medium-bodied and displays good weight in the mouth. It does not quite have the complexity of the 2012 on the finish, but still, this will be a delicious Vosne-Romanée.
