The 2019 Labégorce was the first vintage vinified in the new cellar and also the first to use Cabernet Franc from the north part of the appellation, on more limestone soils, a massal selection from an organic producer in the south of France. Matured in 40% new oak, this has a voluminous, multifaceted bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar and perhaps more rose petal than violet at the moment. Wonderfully evocative nose, rich and vibrant, floral and perfumed alongside red fruits with a tiny touch of wood spice. Rich but dark and cooling, a brooding and bewitching style with liquorice-laced fruit and firm tannins. Serious, mouth filling, concentrated and rich but well delivered. There is a clarity to the fruit but this is all muscle and sinew at the moment. Lovely but tight and tense, so focussed with a hint of crushed stone and mint on the finish. A characterful style.Inc. A very sensual first in the mouth, with black fruits coating the palate, lingering tannin. 7% of PV bring nice structure and bring character. Une couleur rubis très intense. Le nez l’est tout autant, entre la réglisse, la violette et les notes douces d’épices. L’attaque est voluptueuse, le fruit noir enveloppe le palais, les tannins travaillent en largeur comme en longueur. Les 7% de Petit Verdot structurent encore davantage et apportent de la race. Now in bottle, it has retained those engaging aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cedar and a pinch of spice, well defined and quintessentially Margaux. The palate is understated on the entry, smooth and sensual in texture, with gorgeous, very pure red fruit. I adore the harmony of this wine, and the way it sashays toward the finish. Very intense ruby colour, the smell is intense as well, between liquorice, violet and smooth spicy notes. A very sensual first in the mouth, with black fruits coating the palate, lingering tannin. 7% of PV bring nice structure and bring character. Une couleur rubis très intense.
