Bordeaux 2022 En Primeur - Left Bank
The Left Bank of Bordeaux is located on the west side of the Gironde River and is home to some of the region's most renowned wineries. The area's unique terroir, with gentle slopes and a wide variety of gravel, stones, sand, limestone, and clay soils, make it perfect for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux wine. Among the famous communes, Pauillac, St-Julien, and Margaux are home to prestigious estates like Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Châtea Léoville Las-Cases, Château Ducru Beaucaillou, and Château Palmer, among others. Many of these blue-chip wineries from the Left Bank are considered excellent names to keep in a long-term portfolio.

I loved the 2022 Clos Du Marquis, which is a brilliant effort, if not the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted. Cassis, graphite, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and flawless balance. It shows the ripe, concentrated, powerful style of the vintage yet is incredibly pure and seamless, with everything in the right places. It's going to round into form with just a few years of bottle age but have decades of prime drinking. In Bond€1,168.40 -

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93-96)
The 2022 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is laced with scents of tangerine oil, mint, white flowers and ripe green pear. Creamy and unctuous, but not at all heavy, the 2022 is showing beautifully today. All the elements are so well balanced in this classy, understated Sauternes from Bernard Magrez. Yields were just 9 hectoliters per hectare. Tasted two times. In Bond€1,132.83 -
Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (94)
No secret that I am a fan of this small production, high quality estate in the Médoc region, owned by Françoise and Stéphane Dief. Once again here it shows you why. This is absolutely staying in the lines of 2022 in terms of its full-on inky colour, but there are vibrant violet edges, and this feels sleek but restrained. A real standout, leaning into the vintage with its clearly ripe dark fruits and plush chocolate and liquorice lacing, but never feeling over the top. A buy.In Bond€410.00 -

One of the finest wines to ever pass my lips, the 2022 Château Cos D'Estournel is a monument in the making. Based on 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this saturated ruby/purple-hued Saint-Estèphe offers a full-bodied, massive, opulent style as well as perfumed red, blue, and black fruits, ample spice, chocolate, graphite, and lead pencil-like aromatics, a stacked mid-palate, flawless balance, and a monster of a finish. An improved version of the 2009 (if that's possible), this is a legendary wine in the making. Hats off to Michel Reybier and technical director Dominique Arangoïts.In Bond€1,375.00 -
