(1x75cl) 2014Vinous (91-93)
(aged almost entirely in one-year-old barrels, mostly from Chassin): Bright red-ruby. Dark raspberry, dark chocolate, medicinal clove, licorice and spices on the nose, complicated by cinnamon and blond tobacco nuances. Plush, round and seamless, showing lovely subtle spicy depth and a hint of chocolate to the very pure, inviting flavors of raspberry, mocha and minerals. Silky and aromatic in the mouth in spite of its obvious oakiness, and smooth on the finish. There's a good bit of Pinot Beurot here; Bouchard used to eliminate it from this wine but Weber is now including it for greater complexity.Inc. TAX€143.48 -

Good deep ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice pastille. Juicy, minerally and penetrating but tightly coiled and on the lean side, in need of long barrel aging. This seems a bit less ripe than Bouchard's best domain offerings (like the Charmes, this is purchased wine), as well as more heavily extracted, even brutal. (12x75cl) 2017Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2017 Bourgneuf has really gained in density over the course of its élevage, while remaining as restrained and understated as it always is. Pliant, silky and wonderfully nuanced with lovely aromatic top notes, Bourgneuf is one the undiscovered jewels in Pomerol - and in Bordeaux more broadly. Expressive floral and savory notes add aromatic dimension but in 2017, Bourgenuf stands out for its textural depth and resonance, both of which are pronounced to a degree I have not seen previously. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to soften. It is such a gorgeous wine. Tasted three times.Inc. TAX€628.75 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
The 2018 Bourgneuf is positively stellar. Silky, nuanced and so full of character, the 2018 impresses with its total finesse. Silky tannins and beautifully lifted aromatics give this mid-weight Pomerol so much class. Lavender, spice, mint, dried herbs and a touch of new oak are all laced into a core of inky blue/purplish berry fruit. This is another stellar effort from a château that has been seriously on the rise over the last few vintages.Inc. TAX€744.67 -

The 2020 Bourgneuf has closed up a little on the nose post-bottling: blackberry, graphite, subtle loamy aromas and just a whiff of sea spray. Fine delineation and commendable complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, quite structured and perhaps more "serious" than its showing from barrel. Generous helpings of cracked black pepper enliven the second half, firm grip with a very nicely proportioned finish. This is an excellent Bourgneuf that should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure.Inc. TAX€371.74 -
