The 100% Tempranillo 1996 Cuvee Campanario represents a blend of the finest parcels of Tempranillo. The wine was aged in 100% new French Limousin oak for 16 months, then bottled without filtration. It reveals a saturated purple color, and is more backward both aromatically and on the palate, as well as more impressive. The wine's bouquet falls in the black fruit spectrum of aromas - blackberries, black raspberries, and overripe cherries. Full-bodied and tightly-knit, with intriguing mineral notes, this powerful, rich, layered wine could easily pass for a top-class Bordeaux in a blind tasting. The result of 28 days of maceration, the high tannin is sweet and well-integrated in the wine's framework. However, I would not recommend drinking this offering for 2-3 more years. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2020. Congratulations are in order for this impressive new winery that is already turning out wines of exceptional quality.Inc. TAX€422.99 -

The wine is a testament to meticulous harvesting, with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah grapes handpicked in the optimal conditions of 1997. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the blend matures for 12 months in French oak barrels, accentuating its complexity. Flavours of ripe dark fruit are harmoniously balanced with spicy notes and a velvety finish. Its opulent structure and persistent aromas make the Abadia Retuerta Lapsus 1997 a wine of undeniable distinction. A fine testament to Spain’s viticultural heritage and a remarkable addition to any distinguished cellar.

The 1996 Pago Negralada was to be bottled approximately a month after I tasted it. Made from a single Tempranillo vineyard, planted more than 2100 feet above sea level, the alluvial and clay soil mixture gives the wine a distinctive character. This is unquestionably a spectacular effort, displaying a saturated purple color, and a knock-out blackberry, chocolate, licorice, and earthy-scented nose. Exquisitely balanced, this full-bodied wine is crammed with fruit, yet it does not come across as heavy or overbearing. This wine has benefited from having its malolactic take place in barrel (which tends to integrate the wood into the wine earlier, and, some say, more effectively than when it is done in tank). The layers of fruit are ripe, the wine's purity impeccable, and the overall balance impressive. This stunningly rich, potentially brilliant wine will admirably showcase the heights that Tempranillo can achieve. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2018. Congratulations are in order for this impressive new winery that is already turning out wines of exceptional quality.Inc. TAX€836.87 -

Bright, dark ruby. Sappy, pungent, superripe aromas of cassis, black cherry, clove, mace and mint. Supersweet and extraordinarily concentrated; expands to take over the mouth. Thick but lively chocolatey fruit is huge but not at all heavy. The utterly suave and ripe tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. Superb persistence of flavor. An extraordinary pure cabernet from Spain. Incidentally, the '97 fruit from these vines was blended into the Cuvee El Palomar from that vintage.Inc. TAX€1,109.58 -
Alberto Orte, Escalada Do Bibei, Valdeorras 2017 exemplifies the pinnacle of Galician viticulture. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, ensuring the preservation of vibrant aromatics and precise acidity. The wine is then aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, allowing subtle integration of oak nuances without overshadowing the varietal character. On the palate, Escalada Do Bibei 2017 reveals layers of ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and a hint of floral undertones, culminating in a long, elegant finish. This exquisite creation is a testament to Alberto Orte's dedication to quality and the expressive potential of Valdeorras' terroir.

Medium intensity ruby red colour, floral rose bud, raspberry leaf, red cherry, dried herbs, black tea, lemongrass, intense and fragrant, a wine that appeals to lovers of intense flavours, a foodie wine because it is about texture and contrast, rather than being layered with sweet oak. Extremely juicy on the finish, mouthwatering and extremely drinkable, joyful, crammed with flavour and interest. Can be drunk soon, or will have a good ten years ageing in it. Just the second vintage on the Place de Bordeaux, and already it feels like it has found its place. A clear win for me. Granite, schist soils, native yeast fermentation in 500l barrels with stems, vineyards ranging from 200-600m in altitude. Just 6,668 bottles produced by winemaker Fernando Gonzalez Riveiro. I have tasted this a few times over the summer in different situations, and each time the biggest takeaway is that it is full of character and life, and is one that you will enjoy sharing with friends.Inc. I also tasted the very young barrel sample of the 2021 Quiñón de Valmira, a year with stress and small berries with a very mild summer that resulted in a wine with great concentration and finesse, with a pH of 3.46 and six grams of acidity (higher than the average). The wine is still a baby (six months old!), but it feels quite balanced and is not oaky at all; it is harmonious, clean and quite expressive, even if it has lots of concentration and a big structure. This is a great vintage of Valmira in the making, super balanced, perhaps the finest ever? They expect to fill some 4,300 bottles around April 2023.Inc. TAX€1,059.72 -

Quiñón de Valmira is not just a wine. As Palacios’ top Rioja it leads the transformation of Rioja Baja, now known as Rioja Oriental; puts the overlooked Garnacha back centre stage; and highlights the Sierra de Yerga as a fine vineyard origin. The palate is very appealing: succulent with a resounding red fruit and dark cherry ripeness, plus a lift of orange zest. Vivid, penetrating and long. I was anxious to taste the bottled 2023 Les Aubaguetes, as the sample from last year had shown the most elegant of the wines from 2023. It comes from an exceptional vineyard, "vinya classificada," 1.79 hectares of ancient vines (60% Garnacha, 35% Cariñena and 5% white varieties in 2023) in the village of Bellmunt del Priorat, a place that is different from most of the other vineyards in the village of Gratallops and always delivers pale, silky and fresher wines, with a more delicate profile, reflecting a north-facing, more humid place. This fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and had a 36-day maceration. It matured in oval French oak foudres for 13 months and spent two more months in concrete before bottling. Right now, it has a little bit of spicy oak, a rarity in the wines, but it can sometimes happen; it's light but noticeable next to the other wines. It has a moderate 14% alcohol and a very balanced palate with freshness and elegance. It has turned a lot more classical, with the serene harmony and the depth of the old vines, fine-boned, elegant and harmonious, even a little shy today, hinting at a slow development in bottle. This vineyard is revealing a strong personality and is the source of a superb wine, more and more consistent each vintage. 1,200 bottles were filled in February 2025, a particularly low-yielding year for this vineyard. There will be no 2024 because of the rain during the harvest and the problems with botrytis; there was only one barrel.Inc. TAX€400.75 -

Congratulations are in order for this impressive new winery that is already turning out wines of exceptional quality. In Bond€334.00 -

Congratulations are in order for this impressive new winery that is already turning out wines of exceptional quality. In Bond€675.00 -

Incidentally, the '97 fruit from these vines was blended into the Cuvee El Palomar from that vintage. In Bond€906.00 -

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)
I have tasted this a few times over the summer in different situations, and each time the biggest takeaway is that it is full of character and life, and is one that you will enjoy sharing with friends. In Bond€318.00 -

They expect to fill some 4,300 bottles around April 2023.In Bond€872.00 -

Alvaro Palacios says Valmira is 'all about the aftertaste and the length'. Viñedo singular. 5,552 bottles produced. In Bond€1,010.00 -

There will be no 2024 because of the rain during the harvest and the problems with botrytis; there was only one barrel. In Bond€330.00 -
