Roriz 2000 exemplifies the pinnacle of Portuguese winemaking, crafted in the esteemed Douro Valley. Handpicked from meticulously tended vineyards, the grapes benefit from the region’s unique terroir, rich in granite soils and ideal microclimates. Under the stewardship of the illustrious José Roriz, the wine undergoes a traditional fermentation process in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving its vibrant fruit character and elegant acidity. Following fermentation, Roriz 2000 is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, imparting subtle layers of vanilla and spice without overshadowing its intrinsic flavours. The result is a harmonious blend of ripe blackberries, plum, and delicate floral notes, complemented by a refined tannic structure and a lingering, sophisticated finish. Perfectly balanced and impeccably structured, Roriz 2000 is a testament to the craftsmanship and passion of its producer, making it a distinguished choice for fine wine enthusiasts seeking excellence and authenticity.

Unveiling the splendour of Portugal, the Roriz 2003, encapsulates the best of the Douro region's viticulture. An esteemed product of Quinta de Roriz, this wine resonates with the prestigious legacy of the Prats & Symington family. Reputed for their winemaking prowess, they have masterfully crafted the Roriz 2003 with a blend of indigenous Douro grapes, predominantly touriga nacional and touriga franca.

The character of Roriz 2003 emerges through its meticulous production process. A small portion of the grapes is fermented in traditional 'lagares.' Then, it ages for 18 months in French oak, resulting in a wine that's beautifully textured with praiseworthy depth and complexity.

Enjoy complex notes of violets and dark chocolate, superbly balanced with a vigorous tannin structure. Roriz 2003 delivers an impressive long finish, echoing the richness of Douro's robust terroir. How splendidly Roriz 2003 expresses Portugal's wine legacy!

Wine Advocate (91)

The 2007 Tokaji Aszu Betsek 6-Puttonyos is nicely defined on the nose with scents of orange-blossom, Clementine, creme brulee and just a hint of jasmine. The palate is very well-balanced with a viscous core of honeyed fruit pierced by perfectly judged acidity that counterbalances the 183 grams per liter of residual sugar. It segues into a spicy, animated finish with hints of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent.

The 2007 Tokaji Aszu Birsalmas 6-Puttonyos comes from one of the most famous vineyards in Tokaj. It has an intriguing bouquet, admittedly not one of the most immediate from the Royal Tokaji Company. It seems broodier, with resinous scents such as melted candle wax intermingling with dried honey and tree sap aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. It just glides across the mouth, the acidity nigh perfectly judged, and it gently builds to a lovely finish of marmalade, orange rind, quince and a touch of toffee that, to quibble, feels ever so slightly cloying.

Gold reflections glimmer in this amber-colored sweet wine that has aromas of apricot, yellow peach and Bartlett pear. The palate shows flavors of acacia honey, canned apricot and Anjou pear. The finish has enough acidity to stand up to the sweetness.

The 2003 Essencia has a fabulous bouquet with profound scents of lemon curd, frangipane, apple crumble, dandelion, wild mushroom and a slight adhesive note. The palate is extraordinarily pure with perfect acidity. It is perfectly focused with a crescendo of honey, quince, and Seville orange marmalade with lemon peel. This is out of this world.

Vinous - Neal Martin (100)

The 2007 Tokaji Essencia contains 560 g/l residual sugar with 10.1 g/l acidity, a total production of 2,057 bottles. I have tasted the 2007 once before, though that was several years ago. Clear amber in colour, it has a fabulous, showstopping nose with stewed apricots, mandarin, Anjou pears and marmalade all delivered with stunning delineation. The bouquet has not moved much in recent years. The palate is incredibly unctuous in texture and literally lacquers the mouth. It is intense and compelling with notes of Seville orange, yellow plum and a background spiciness. Boasting incredible purity and a length that has to be tasted to be believed, this vies with the 2009 as the greatest Essencia that the Royal Tokaji Company has ever made.

Ethereal aromas of peach nectar, apricot preserves, orange zest and candied almonds waft from the glass. Full texture and luscious flavors of caramelized pineapple, orange marmalade, honeycomb, ripe summer peach, and Turkish delight. Its extreme sweetness is held in check by vibrant but not overpowering acidity. Drink through 2059.

Facing south and southwest, the Nyulászó vineyard features brown and yellow clay soil. Minerality sets the tone of this 2016 dry Furmint, with struck match, ripe peaches, honeysuckle and dusty dried apricot aromas. The palate is explosive, warm and spicy, with layers of citrus, dried apricot, fig, melon and hints of white pepper, refreshed by a solid backbone of acidity. The concentrated flavours follow all the way to the lingering finish, complex and sophisticated.

From Bürgstadt’s coolish terroir, the 2019 Centgrafenberg Spätburgunder GG offers possibly the deepest, most intense and complete as well as generous bouquet of Fürst's 2019 Pinot trio, yet it still preserves this delicate, finessed and floral Pinot fruit that is reminiscent of dark cherries, black berries and raspberries with a touch of black cake, here combined with toasty notes. Silky, round and juicy on the palate, this is a full-bodied, very intense and concentrated yet lush and elegant Pinot with firm tannins and a tight, sustainably intense and salty finish with good mineral freshness. This is a highly promising Centgrafenberg that no Pinot lover should miss buying. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.
