The 2007 Tokaji Aszu Betsek 6-Puttonyos is nicely defined on the nose with scents of orange-blossom, Clementine, creme brulee and just a hint of jasmine. The palate is very well-balanced with a viscous core of honeyed fruit pierced by perfectly judged acidity that counterbalances the 183 grams per liter of residual sugar. It segues into a spicy, animated finish with hints of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent.Inc. TAX€465.79 -

The 2007 Tokaji Aszu Birsalmas 6-Puttonyos comes from one of the most famous vineyards in Tokaj. It has an intriguing bouquet, admittedly not one of the most immediate from the Royal Tokaji Company. It seems broodier, with resinous scents such as melted candle wax intermingling with dried honey and tree sap aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. It just glides across the mouth, the acidity nigh perfectly judged, and it gently builds to a lovely finish of marmalade, orange rind, quince and a touch of toffee that, to quibble, feels ever so slightly cloying.Inc. The 2003 Essencia has a fabulous bouquet with profound scents of lemon curd, frangipane, apple crumble, dandelion, wild mushroom and a slight adhesive note. The 2007 Tokaji Essencia contains 560 g/l residual sugar with 10.1 g/l acidity, a total production of 2,057 bottles. I have tasted the 2007 once before, though that was several years ago. Clear amber in colour, it has a fabulous, showstopping nose with stewed apricots, mandarin, Anjou pears and marmalade all delivered with stunning delineation. The bouquet has not moved much in recent years. The palate is incredibly unctuous in texture and literally lacquers the mouth. It is intense and compelling with notes of Seville orange, yellow plum and a background spiciness. Boasting incredible purity and a length that has to be tasted to be believed, this vies with the 2009 as the greatest Essencia that the Royal Tokaji Company has ever made.Inc. TAX€3,967.91 -

Ethereal aromas of peach nectar, apricot preserves, orange zest and candied almonds waft from the glass.
