Château Trotte Vieille
About Château Trotte Vieille
Historical records indicate that Château Trotte Vieille could have been producing wines as early as 1435, making the estate one of the oldest properties in St-Émilion. Reportedly named after an old lady whom residents of St-Émilion referred to as an “old trot”, Château Trotte Vieille was gifted by Marcel Borie in 1949 to his son-in-law, Emile Castéja, whose family also owned Château Lynch-Moussas, Château Batailley and Château du Domaine-de-LEglise. The 33-hectare vineyard of Château Trotte Vieille consists of a single block of vines located not far from Château Troplong Mondot and Château Pavie Macquin. Vines are old, averaging close to 50 years, with some pre-phylloxera vines over 140 years old! The estate produces about 30,000 bottles of its first wine every year, which is a blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. There is also a second wine, the “La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille”.
