Louis Latour
About Louis Latour
One of the most prominent vine owners and négociants in Beaune, Maison Louis Latour have been growing grapes in the Côte de Beaune as early as 1731. They are currently the largest owner of Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte d’Or. The estate is also proudly family-owned and is now managed by Louis-Fabrice Latour, the seventh Louis and the 11th generation of the Latour family.
The Latour family has been proprietors of a part of Romanée-Saint-Vivant since December 1898. "Les Quatre Journaux" is a magnificent plot of land situated at the South-West of Romanée Saint Vivant, a few meters from the Romanée-Conti vineyard.

Burghound (91-94)There is a phenolic hint (think nut or olive oil) to the smoky mix of petrol, apple, dried apricot and white peach aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the caressing, exceptionally rich and generously proportioned big-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the moderately structured and sneaky long finish. This is actually very forward for a young Montrachet, but I suspect that once it is in bottle it will tighten up considerably. |

Wine Advocate (92-94)The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru is promising, bursting with notes of pear, white flowers, citrus oil and toasted bread. Full-bodied, ample and layered, it's satiny and concentrated, with fine depth at the core and chalky grip on the finish. |

Le Montrachet Grand Cru covers only 8 hectares between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. This particular area was known during the 13th century as ‘Mont Rachas’. ‘La rache’ in the Burgundian dialect is commonly known as ringworm, a skin disease that causes hair loss. This baldness gives its name to the bare and stony hillside, which grew only thorny bushes until vines were planted. The terroir of Montrachet is a notable exception because its brown soils, usually reserved for Pinot Noir, transform here the Chardonnay into one of the greatest white wines in the world. The east exposure captures sunlight later in the evening. These factors are critical to achieve optimal ripeness. Our grapes come from a parcel with an area of 0.80 hectares which extends from the top to the bottom of the slope in the central part of North Montrachet, situated on the Puligny-Montrachet side.

Burghound (92)This is a very understated wine with elegant, pure and extremely pretty spicy red fruit aromas followed by supple yet precise and focused middle weight flavors highlighted by a sappy, intense and persistent finish. Modern day Latour reds can often be on the light side but this offers solid concentration and more overall depth than usual. In short, this is lovely stuff. |

Wine Spectator (92)An expressive, fluid red, with cherry, raspberry, spice and mineral flavors riding the vibrant structure to a lingering conclusion. The tannins show up on the finish but are buffered by sweet fruit. Best from 2016 through 2030. 366 cases made. -BS |

James Suckling (95)A beautiful and sexy red with blueberry and blackberry character. Hints of coffee and spices. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Very fine and pretty. Delicious now, but there's plenty of backbone and structure for the future. Powerful underneath it all. Drink or hold. |

Wine Advocate (92-94)Aromas of raspberries, exotic spices, dried flowers and candied peel preface the 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru Les Quatre Journaux, a full-bodied, ample wine that's broader shouldered and more structured than even Latour's Chambertin, with a deep, layered core of juicy balancing acids, concluding with a long finish. It's a definite success. |

James Suckling (100)This is like staring into an abyss, but being overwhelmed with joy. The essence of fine pinot noir and of Burgundy, which you don’t need to be any kind of expert to appreciate. Enormously concentrated, but so graceful, this makes you want to forget everything else you are supposed to be doing. Lean back and let yourself be overwhelmed. Drink or hold. |

Famous throughout the world for its Grand Crus, Vosne-Romanée also has some extremely good Premier Crus. The vineyard of Les Petits Monts is situated at the top of the hill and takes its name from its location. The iron-based soils just south of Nuits Saint Georges are a perfect home for Pinot Noir vines and help the grapes reach peak maturity. Louis Latour’s traditional winemaking allow the lively perfumes and great fruit characters come to the fore. Wines from Les Petits Monts need age to reveal their full potential

Burghound (90-93)Moderate wood stops short of fighting with the very spicy aromas of cassis and dark berry fruit coulis. The velvety and palate soaking middle weight plus flavors possess a seductive texture while offering more volume and power if less minerality on the ever-so-mildly warm but lengthy finale that is similarly structured. Outstanding. Drink: 2032+ |
