Domaine Hubert Lamy
About Domaine Hubert Lamy
Lamy is a historic name in Burgundy, with a vine growing history in St-Aubin stretching as far back as 1640. However, it is Olivier Lamy, the current owner and winemaker of the family estate, who put this artisanal estate on the international fine wine stage.
A diligent vigneron representing the new generation of exciting winemakers, Olivier is keen to make progress in both his vineyard and cellar. Having sharpened his craft at Méo-Camuzet before taking over the family estate in 1996, he established a very sharp acumen for identifying the best and oldest sites. Adding his natural winemaking instinct to more technical knowledge such as how to train vines flexibly, his exquisitely fine and terroir-expressive wines are celebrated by Burgundian connoisseurs the world over.

The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes is one of the more reserved wines in the range, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange zest, confit citrus, crisp yellow apple and white flowers. It's medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Forget it for the better part of a decade in the cellar and reap the rewards, even if it will be approachable sooner.Inc. TAX€441.79 -

Vinous (90-92)
(a very small crop from degenerating old vines): Pale yellow. Musky apple, smoke and a whiff of iodine on the nose. Very rich, broad and classically dry, with orchard fruit and spice flavors framed and energized by harmonious acidity. Has the dry extract to support its slightly tannic impression and really resounds on the back end. Plenty of dimension here, but this wine will need time to fill in.Inc. TAX€578.96 -

The 2017 Saint-Aubin La Princée is very pretty, displaying notes of pear, white flowers, citrus oil and a subtle touch of anise. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, tangy and elegantly textural, with excellent length on the precise finish.Inc. TAX€1,270.38 -

The 2018 Saint-Aubin La Princée is showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp Anjou pear. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and precise, it's saline and incisive, Lamy observing that some two-thirds of this parcel is decidedly cool and windy.Inc. TAX€898.38 -

A blend of 10 different parcels, the 2020 Saint-Aubin La Princée has a pretty nose of apple blossom and subtle granitic scents, focused with modest intensity. The palate is well-balanced with a dash of white pepper on the entry, fine acidity, quite fiery on the finish in a positive sense. Lots of energy coiled up here.Inc. TAX€1,388.77 -

The 2020 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet with liquorice-tinged citrus fruit, one of Lamy's "feisty" 2020s. The palate is pithy with plenty of extract, a texturally satisfyingly Santenay rather than one with overt fruit, something almost Rhône-like towards the finish. An intriguing prospect.Inc. Vinous (90-92)
The 2018 Santenay Clos des Gravières 1er Cru Rouge is actually working toward one of Lamy’s high-density vineyards at 20,000 per hectare, although the interpolated young vines are too young to go into the blend at the moment. This has lovely red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit aromas, very pure and harmonious. The palate is lively and effervescent on the entry, with chalky tannins and bright red currant and cranberry fruit toward the finish. Excellent.Inc. TAX€798.78 -
Vinous (90)
The 2019 Santenay Clos des Gravières Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed bouquet that shows more delineation and poise than the 2020. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity and fine-boned with ample mineralité on the finish. Excellent.Inc. TAX€586.38 -
Wine Advocate (87-89)
The 2015 Santenay Clos des Hâtes, which is 50% de-stemmed, a massale selection from d'Angerville and Henri Boillot planted in 1999, has a well-defined bouquet with black berry and bilberry fruit, subtle undergrowth scents coming through with time. The palate is grainy in texture, quite masculine with blackberry fruit, a pleasant leafiness towards the tertiary finish that just needs to develop a little more aftertaste. Enjoy over 4-6 years.Inc. The 2018 Santenay Clos des Hâtes, which had just been racked, has a lovely raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and slightly confit in style, leading to a solid, quite firm finish.Inc. TAX€625.98 -
