Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

Vinous (94)White plum, fresh apricot, hazelnut, honey and nutty oak on the nose, perked up by a whiff of pineapple. Sweet, deep and powerfully structured, with the wine's fresh fruit flavors currently held under wraps by surprising acidity. Not showing the personality of the Clos de la Mouchere, but this grand cru's sheer energy and very long, rising finish promise a slow and eventful evolution in bottle. |

Burghound (96)This is slightly more complex if a bit less elegant with its equally broad-ranging nose of apple, pear, white flowers and mandarin orange, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to warrant mentioning. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated, powerful and palate coating flavors that are supported by a firm acid spine on the tension-filled and massively persistent finish. This is a big yet well-balanced Bâtard that should age for a very long time yet be approachable after only 5-ish years or so. |

White pepper. There is no sign of the reduction on the palate. An exceptional example with more tension at the back, great potential for the long term. Penetrating, savory flavors of lemon, lime, peach and crushed stone convey an impression of power without weight. Really terrific fruit and mineral intensity here. The slightly phenolic finish features superb building length. An outstanding expression of terroir. |

The wonderfully intense, focused and muscular large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressively minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. This too should be gorgeous in time. |

Like the Pucelles there is excellent richness and detail and much more minerality-suffusing the almost painfully intense finale that is breathtaking in its persistence. This is a gem of a Puligny 1er and in 2016 is a lovely blend of power and finesse. In sum, this is a knockout. |
