(from a .7 ha parcel that was partially replanted in 1985 and the remainder in 1989). Here the wood influence is very subtle and easily allows the fresh, ripe and pretty aromas of pure red berries, jasmine tea, hoisin and anise. The delicious and vibrant if less concentrated medium weight flavors possess a lovely inner mouth perfume while exhibiting good length on the slightly edgy finale. The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru, matured with 50% new oak, has quite a flattering bouquet with black plum, bilberry, and a pinch of white pepper, though it doesn't deliver the complexity you would find in a great growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with pretty firm tannins, slightly peppery. Like the Grands Echézeaux, it just seems content to tread water in the second half, rather than building on its opening.
