Georges Roumier
Domaine Roumier began as a wedding gift in 1924 when a local girl from Chambolle-Musigny married Georges Roumier. The present day sees Christophe Roumier at the helm achieving considerable regard and esteem for this top-tier domaine. Sparing use of new oak and a deft hand for green harvesting and pruning has led to expressive, nuanced wines which are rightly prized by collectors the world over.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)Rich purple, with energy on the nose, more black fruit, a little less easy to read than the flamboyant Ruchottes. Two thirds whole bunch just visible. Showing the duality of this vineyard. More black than red, nothing in any way cooked, deep long and sultry, some comparison with Bussière but a much greater depth of generous fruity and of course very long indeed. Going to be spectacular I think. A really classic structure with a brilliant aftertaste. Tasted: November 2021 |

This wine is always too multi-faceted to admit of simple fruit descriptors. There are quite a few berries in the bowl. Some fresh red fruit then much darer notes, I turn lightened up by the peppery notes to finish. This really kicks on magically behind! 75-80 whole bunch vinification. Drink from 2035. |

It has a very refined bouquet with dark, almost broody black fruit, a touch of cold granite and graphite, austere and yet blessed with exquisite delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sorbet-like freshness on the entry, here more blue fruit than the Clos de la Bussière with an elegant, poised finish. The word that sprung to mind? Balletic. |

Burghound (93)(from a .27 ha parcel). An attractively fresh mix of red and dark currant is laced with ample floral and soft spice nuances. The supple and more refined middle weight flavors possess a bit more energy that carries over to the relatively powerful and lingering, and decidedly firm, finish where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. Like the Bussières, this is the best vintage for the Combottes that I’ve seen in sometime. I would add that Combottes is normally a relatively forward Chambolle 1er but that’s not the case in 2022. |

Vintage Tastings (95+)was tasted. More similar stylistically to the Groffier than the Mugnier, the Roumier took the intensity and class up a couple notches form the Groffier. Vinous (93)The 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is a vintage that I have not encountered previously. There is certainly fine intensity on the nose with raspberry and Morello cherry scents, appearing later crushed stone and rose petal notes. That Amoureuses sensuality really comes through. The palate is smooth and velvety with fine tannins. It is not the most complex Les Amoureuses that Christophe Roumier has ever produced, but certainly one of the most drinkable (however banal that reads.) Wonderful, though I would be inclined to drink it in the near future. Tasted at Xmas lunch at Trinity restaurant. |

Juicy, classic and penetrating, with superb cut and floral perfume in the middle palate. Boasts compelling subtle sweetness and clarity, and finishes with a serious spine of tannins and acids. A very serious young wine, very much in the style of a mini-Musigny. Should be a beauty. |
