De Montille
Domaine de Montille in the Cote de Beaune was developed by Hubert de Montille in 1951. His family have aristocratic roots in the region’s land since the 17th century. Now run by his son, Etienne, they use traditional wine making techniques to produce pure elegant Burgundy that generally requires five years bottle ageing.

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comprises just one-third as much fruit as in 2022 and demanded twice as many treatments. It is just missing a bit of presence on the nose, with hints of white flowers and honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, orange pith and hints of white peach and touches of white tea towards a very elegant finish. Hopefully, the aromatics will awaken by the time of bottling. |

Wine Advocate (91-92)The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Aux Thoreys represents another sizeable former Thomas-Moillard monopole (above Bousselots), a portion of which de Montille has retained. (Part of the site was deeded to Sylvain Cathiard to free his lease on a portion of the Thomas-Moillard Malconsorts, and part went to the Seysses family of Domaine Dujac, who elected not to retain it after the 2005 vintage.) Vanilla tinged stewed rhubarb and roasted meats emerge from the glass, and the palate alternates between tart brightness and vanilla cream, meat and stony mineral steadily underlying the whole. The clearly major tannins are quite fine-grained and the finish is formidably persistent. This already impressively-endowed Pinot bids fair to become very interesting in 5-7 years. |

Tight aromas of black cherry, redcurrant and rust (there's a bit of iron in the soil here as well), lifted by a floral quality. Savory and fine-grained, with red berry flavors enlivened by saline minerality. Not a big wine but offers an attractive blend of sweet, savory and acidic elements. Vanilla tinged stewed rhubarb and roasted meats emerge from the glass, and the palate alternates between tart brightness and vanilla cream, meat and stony mineral steadily underlying the whole. The clearly major tannins are quite fine-grained and the finish is formidably persistent. This already impressively-endowed Pinot bids fair to become very interesting in 5-7 years. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Thorey 1er Cru has two-thirds whole cluster fruit and matures in 40% new oak. It has a refined and quite backward bouquet that demands encouragement, light sous-bois and crushed limestone scents percolating through the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. A firm grip in the mouth with a light oyster shell influence defining what is a very detailed and persistent finish. Very good potential here - superb. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Thorey 1er Cru, which is two-thirds whole cluster, has a very focused bouquet of elegant red cherry, raspberry and briary aromas, plus a hint of bay leaf and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity thanks to the calcareous soils, and displays superb tension and focus toward the finish. A gorgeous, ethereal Aux Thorey. |

Vinous (91-93)(from the north side of Pommard above Les Grands Epenots on active limestone soil; vinified with one-third whole clusters and aged in one-third new oak): Good dark red. This minerally, salty wine finishes with big, mouth-dusting tannins. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru matures with one-third whole clusters and the same new oak. It has a pretty, floral bouquet that opens with red cherries and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very linear and taut but gaining weight towards the finely tuned, mineral-driven finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru has a more detailed, purer bouquet compared to Les Grands Epenots, offering vivacious dark cherry, raspberry and pomegranate notes and good mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition and finer tannins, and the calcaire soils plus the 30% whole cluster lend real definition and personality on the finish. Excellent. |
