Domaine de Montille in the Cote de Beaune was developed by Hubert de Montille in 1951. His family have aristocratic roots in the region’s land since the 17th century. Now run by his son, Etienne, they use traditional wine making techniques to produce pure elegant Burgundy that generally requires five years bottle ageing.

Deeply pitched, fruit-driven aromas of black raspberry and dark cherry, plus a hint of smoky minerality. Wonderfully plush yet lively, displaying more volume and depth than the Mitans. Lovely silky Volnay without any impression of undue weight. Really fills the mouth and echoes on the finish while maintaining superb vivacity. Here the acidity is ripe and the broad tannins distinctly suave and fine-grained. This is showing beautifully considering that it only finished its malolactic fermentation in September. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru, 100% whole clusters, has an outstanding bouquet with complex raspberry, wild strawberry and crushed stone aromas - all very engaging and sophisticated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, plenty of red fruit here, tightening up towards quite a structured and backward finish. It deserves several years in bottle but it should turn out a fine Taillepieds (like the 1985 recently tasted.) |
