De Montille
Domaine de Montille in the Cote de Beaune was developed by Hubert de Montille in 1951. His family have aristocratic roots in the region’s land since the 17th century. Now run by his son, Etienne, they use traditional wine making techniques to produce pure elegant Burgundy that generally requires five years bottle ageing.

The 2018 Pommard Les Grands Epenots 1er Cru is missing a little definition on the nose, which is rather disjointed at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well-judged acidity. Missing some complexity on the admittedly quite elegant finish. Drink this before the other Pommards.Inc. TAX€1,547.56 -

(this was one of the estate's least hail-affected vineyards in 2001, according to current winemaker Brian Sieve; vinified with 50% whole clusters and aged in just 10% new oak): Medium red with an amber rim. Musky aromas of redcurrant and truffle, plus a hint of balsamic sweetness. Wonderfully silky, seamless, harmonious wine with complex flavors of strawberry, raspberry, plum, minerals and earth. Full of fruit and given shape by superb underlying structure. This utterly delicious wine finishes impressively long and suavely tannic, with lovely spicy lift. Father and son Hubert and Etienne de Montille shared responsibility for this vintage.Inc. TAX€1,167.34 -

Good full red. Red cherry aroma. Juicy but on the lean side, with a cool minty quality and less volume and texture than the Taillepieds. Less serious than the Taillepieds but this offers enticing, subtly sweet fruit. With its less serious structure, this should also offer early appeal.Inc. TAX€152.35 -
Wine Advocate (93)
The 2009 Pommard Les Pezerolles is rich, round and seductive. Layers of fruit caress the palate in this enveloping, textured Burgundy. There is plenty of intensity in the glass. Hints of hard candy and licorice wrap around the finish. The Pezerolles was made with 100% destemmed fruit. Although I like the wine’s frank immediacy, I also think it will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.Inc. TAX€1,176.72 -

(vinified with 50% whole clusters): Good deep red. Initially restrained nose opened somewhat with air to show aromas of redcurrant and flowers. Boasts excellent intensity and savory soil character but a bit medicinal and closed in on itself today, showing sound acidity but little easy sweetness; comes across as a bit tougher and more medicinal than the Volnay Mitans, without that wine's obvious class. But this very firmly structured wine finishes with slowly mounting persistence and surprisingly ripe, suave tannins, and should be long-lived.Inc. TAX€147.96 -

(from the north side of Pommard above Les Grands Epenots on active limestone soil; vinified with one-third whole clusters and aged in one-third new oak): Good dark red. Tight aromas of black cherry, redcurrant and rust (there's a bit of iron in the soil here as well), lifted by a floral quality. Savory and fine-grained, with red berry flavors enlivened by saline minerality. Not a big wine but offers an attractive blend of sweet, savory and acidic elements.
