Lovely mineral and peony high notes lift dark fruits on the nose. Sappy, dense and penetrating, offering terrific concentration and lift to its flavors of dark berries, licorice and minerals. A superb vintage for this wine, less austere than some previous years. We're coming from an era of cooler soils to warmer soils, noted Labet. Global warming has been very good for Clos-Vougeot. (13.2% alcohol; 18 hectoliters per hectare produced; from vines harvested on September 23): Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Explosive, fruit-dominated aromas of dark berries, cherry, spices, mint, menthol, flowers and minerals. Conveys compelling sappy energy in a silky, medium-bodied package, with its black fruit and herb flavors complicated by a touch of saline minerality. Boasts glorious density of fruit--and near-perfect balance in spite of the very low yield. The very long, rising, perfumed finish offers a serious tannic spine for aging but no rough edges. This penetrating, urgent, classic Clos Vougeot, a standout for the vintage, boasts real pinosity. François Labet told me that, beginning with his 2015s, he did not use enzymes and did not add any sulfur until the middle of the élevage, well after the malolactic fermentations finished. He bottled this 2016 with just 20 parts per million free sulfur and 35 total.Inc. TAX€1,121.12 -

Vinous (93)
The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Cuvée Classique" has a fragrant nose with red berry fruit, still that touch of struck flint, fine focus with just a touch of reduction at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry, quite chalky tannins, white pepper towards the prolonged finish. (3x150cl) 2020Vinous (93-95)
The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Cuvée Classique" is around 50-60% whole cluster, mainly from the older vines in the upper sectors of the clos. It is well-defined on the nose that offers a light marine influence, just a touch of seaweed in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity, gentle grip, chalky black fruit with a poised finish. The whole bunch works very well here and it will age with style. Excellent. In Bond€953.00 -

Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique has a bright and quite lively bouquet, red and black fruit, juniper and hawthorn. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, taut and fresh, brown spices infusing the peppery, tobacco-tinged finish. It needs to cohere a little before bottling, though the racking will assist that.In Bond€808.00
