The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from two parcels of 45- and 80-year-old vines on much stonier soils than the Charmes-Chambertin. This has a knockout nose of brambly black fruit, cassis and crushed stone aromas that gain intensity with every swirl of the glass. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry and very precise and focused, with great tension toward the shimmering vintage. Super-fresh, cool and distinctly restrained aromas include those of poached plum, the sauvage, rose petal and plenty of newly turned earth. The delicious, vibrant and more powerful larger-scaled flavors exude notably more minerality on the youthfully austere and superbly persistent finale. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries, rose petals, incense and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and multidimensional, with terrific concentration, supple tannins and lively acids.Inc.
