Arnoux-Lachaux
Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux
Established in 1858, Arnoux-Lachaux is a family affair. Pascal Lachaux (son-in-law of the late Robert Arnoux) is the fifth generation making wine at this Domaine, which has significant grand Cru holdings. he is now working in the winery with his son Charles who has joined him after working in wine regions in New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon.
The Domaine’s wine has always been good but its quality and reputation are sharply rising. A new winery, cellar upgrade and acquisition of a parcel of the Grand Cru Latricieres Chambertin have all contributed.

(1x75cl) 2019Vinous (98)
The 2019 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is blessed with a bewitching bouquet with intense red fruit, crushed stone, pressed rose petals. There is a sorbet-like vitality to this Grand Cru, very well balanced with impressive depth. There is a slight savoriness that develops with time, almost Grands-Echézeaux-like in style with a very persistent finish. This is absolutely divine.Inc. TAX€8,409.73 -
Vinous (89+)
Medium red. Raspberry, currant, plum, chocolate and espresso on the nose, with a leesy complexity. Sweet and fleshy but fresh, with good underlying mineral spine. Builds slowly on the back. A suave, subtle wine that should develop nicely in bottle.Inc. TAX€4,402.54 -
(6x75cl) 2007Vinous (92-94)
(just two and a half barrels made) Deep, bright red. Subdued but vibrant aromas of black raspberry, mint and bitter chocolate. Suave, silky and weightless, with lovely finesse and a penetrating quality to the flavors of dark fruits and crushed stone. Very complex, subtle wine with excellent definition and purity. Finishes with a mounting floral perfume.Inc. TAX€5,368.54 -
(3x150cl) 2015Vinous (93+)
Healthy dark red. Sexy, soil-driven nose melds raspberry, spices, herbs and smoky minerals. Plush, fine-grained and sweet yet somehow light on its feet; like the 2016 version, this has a very high pH around 3.9 but its savory minerality and stem element give it sufficient energy and lift. A wonderfully seamless ripe-but-dry wine with a very long, rising finish featuring refined tannins and lingering black cherry and licorice notes.Inc. TAX€11,581.68 -

(6x75cl) 2016Vinous (93)
The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from a tiny 0.2-ha parcel. It has a vivacious and perfumed bouquet, damp earth and black stewed tea developing with time. The palate is resplendent with raspberry and cranberry fruit, refined with edgy tannin and an exceedingly sustained finish that lasts for more than 60 seconds. The nobility of this Premier Cru, just above La Romanée, really shines through.Inc. TAX€8,271.12 -
(1x75cl) 2018Vinous (94-96)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru expresses the whole-bunch contribution as much as any other 2018 from Lachaux. It is almost Dujac-like in style, displaying fine delineation and a compelling earthy quality. The well-balanced palate is very tight at the moment, offering strict tannins and modest depth. Linear and precise, revealing hints of brown spice and cola toward the complex finish. Quite an uncompromising wine in some ways, but one that is utterly absorbing. Just two barrels made.Inc. TAX€5,056.75 -
Vinous (97)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from an expanded parcel, the "extension" only planted (at 16,000 vines per hectare) in 2015 after being fallow for over a century. The total area is 0.1854-hectares. It has a brilliantly defined bouquet with vivid red fruit, crushed limestone and crushed rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, lithe tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit. Slightly granular in texture, hints of hoisin toward the finish with a long saline aftertaste. This squares up to the RSV and questions its superiority...it's that good.Inc. TAX€5,896.75 -
(12x75cl) 1999Vinous (88-91)
Red-ruby color. Deep, slightly reduced aromas of raspberry and game. Fat, sweet and layered, with a flavor of roasted plum. This has very good depth of fruit. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. Seems considerably more pliant than the '98 was at a similar stage.Inc. TAX€3,728.96 -
(2x75cl) 2005Vinous (93)
Deep red. Smoky red and black fruit aromas are complicated by licorice and minerals. Highly concentrated, sweet and deep, with a medicinal quality to its black fruit flavors. A wonderfully seamless wine with terrific pinot sap. Finishes with superb ripe, spreading tannins. Widespread millerandage here has yielded a wine with terrific volume, but there's nothing heavy about it.Inc. TAX€989.35 -
(6x75cl) 2007Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)
Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Classic aromas of dark berries, licorice and minerals. Juicy and tight-grained, even youthfully imploded, with a serious structure and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of dark cherry, minerals, violet and licorice. Mounts impressively toward the back, finishing with suave tannins and superb purity. Quintessential Vosne, and built to age.Inc. TAX€2,569.68 -
Vinous (90)
Deep red with ruby tones. Complex aromas of dark berries, flowers and spices, complemented by sweet oak and lifted by a peppery nuance. Not a fleshy wine but juicy, firm and aromatic, with lovely balancing acidity giving the wine vibrancy. Not the last word in concentration but finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. Pascal Lachaux noted that in most of his premier and grand crus, he made more wine in 2008 than in either 2009 or 2007.Inc. TAX€349.15 -
Vinous (90-93)
(racked and sulfited): Good bright, dark red. Raspberry, spices, flowers and licorice on the scented nose. Dense, sweet and creamy, with a dominant flavor of sappy maraschino cherry. Finishes impressively long and palate-saturating, with ripe tannins and good medicinal reserve. Lachaux noted that this cuvee used to be harder, but is very supple in both 2011 and 2010. Excellent potential.Inc. TAX€509.95 -
(12x75cl) 2012Vinous (91+)
Healthy full medium red. Ripe strawberry and raspberry scents are complicated by a note of cocoa powder. Round, plush and horizontal, showing saline and herbal nuances to the red fruit and spice flavors. Not a sweet style but spreads out nicely to saturate the mouth. The tannins are dusty and ripe.Inc. TAX€8,445.07 -
(12x75cl) 2013Burghound (90-92)
A spicy but restrained nose speaks of exotic tea, lilac, black raspberry and a hint of wood. There is a seductive texture to the supple medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate density before culminating in a dusty and palate coating finish. This should drink well young but reward up to a decade of cellar time as well.Inc. TAX€8,445.07 -
Vinous (90-93)
Deep red. Distinctly wild aromas of black raspberry, violet, leather and game. Very rich and fine-grained, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve to its complex flavors of raspberry, black cherry, licorice and wild herbs. Offers a superb combination of clarity and depth. Finishes juicy and long, with serious ripe tannins and a repeating leathery nuance.Inc. TAX€438.88 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru comes from the middle of a vineyard that traverses from top to bottom of the incline; this vintage contains around 50% whole bunches. It has a gorgeous bouquet with red currant, cranberry and light mineral notes, hints of bergamot and vervain tea emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannin, fine acidity and quite an insistent grip. The salinity floods through this Vosne-Romanée on the finish. Superb.Inc. TAX€2,062.38 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a winsome bouquet of perfumed raspberry, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas that boast exquisite delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, vibrant red and black fruit and a very linear, vivid finish that conveys a sense of coiled energy. Superb.Inc. TAX€10,218.72 -
Vinous (93+)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has slightly deeper fruit than the Les Hautes Maizières, bilberry and raspberry, autumn leaves, a touch of white pepper. This gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, a little more lactic in texture with veins of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit, cohesive towards the finish with good grip on the finish. This will need time, a little broad-shouldered, almost Morey-like in a way.Inc. TAX€7,074.37 -

(1x75cl) 2021Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a slightly reticent bouquet at first, though over the course of one hour it almost reluctantly offers flinty blackberry and briary scents. The palate is framed by fine tannins, nicely balanced with layered dark berry fruit infused by bay and tea leaves from the whole bunch addition on the finish. Delightful.Inc. TAX€1,109.82 -
(1x75cl) 1999Vinous (92)
Good medium red. Sexy, full-blown aromas of liqueur-like raspberry, graphite, brown spices, mocha, dried flowers and truffley underbrush are lifted by a fresh note of orange peel. Plush, sweet and spicy, conveying a slightly exotic quality but also surprisingly firm acidity and solid minerality in light of the large crop. The wine's complex red fruit, game, spice and soil notes are supported by a firm spine of acidity and tannins. This really fills the retronasals with cherry and raspberry fruit on the back end; it may yet expand further in bottle. Very different from the wines Charles Lachaux is making today: in '99 the fruit was destemmed entirely and aged in 100% new oak.Inc. TAX€955.15 -
(3x75cl) 2002Vinous (90)
(aged in 100% new oak and bottled with no filtration; nowadays Pascal Lachaux and his son Charles filter the bottom portion of the tank): Medium-deep red. Wild, evolving aromas of redcurrant, truffley earth, minerals, fennel and smoky oak. Despite the fully mature aromatics, the pungent raspberry and spice flavors still show good inner-mouth tension. In a slightly funky style; possesses good acidity but this is unlikely to gain in flesh at this point. Like the 2007s, the 2002s have evolved quickly, said Pascal Lachaux, who opined that the '02s are fresher in the Côte de Beaune than the Côte de Nuits.Inc. TAX€3,600.84 -
(1x300cl) 2009Vinous (94)
Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, currant, minerals, violet and licorice on the nose and palate. Opulent, sweet and rich, but with its unctuous texture nicely leavened by sound acidity. Really wonderfully creamy, pliant wine, with a very long, perfumed finish featuring a light dusting of tannins that coats the entire mouth. A superb vintage for this bottling, to enjoy over the next 10 to 15 years.Inc. TAX€3,729.37 -
(6x75cl) 2010Vinous (94)
Good deep red. Unusually closed and less exotic than usual on the nose for this cuvee, hinting at crushed raspberry and Oriental spices, with notes of leather, mocha and minerals emerging with air. Concentrated and sweet, boasting a wonderfully sappy core of raspberry and mineral flavors. The very supple tannins arrive quite late and spread out to dust the palate. The superb rising finish perfumes the mouth. A beauty, but hands off for at least five or six years.Inc. TAX€5,872.45 -
(6x75cl) 2011Vinous (93+)
Bright, dark red. Wild aromas of black fruits, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and Oriental spices, plus a whiff of leather. Dense, suave and firmly built, showing a distinctly sappy quality to the complex flavors of black fruits, spices and minerals. The energetic, very long finish features suave, firm tannins and bright lingering notes of spices and violet. Showing the serious side of 2011, but Pascal Lachaux destemmed everything in this vintage.Inc. TAX€4,045.68 -
Vinous (93)
(50% vendange entier; 100% new oak): Medium red. Tighter on the nose than the 2014 version, offering scents of raspberry, bitter chocolate and peppery spices; this will go truffley with bottle age. Then surprisingly sweet but pungent in the mid-palate, combining a wonderfully silky texture with terrific floral tension. Boasts high-pitched citrus peel, blood orange and spice notes that excite the taste buds. Finishes with very fine-grained tannins and terrific grip and length. Near-grand cru quality here.Inc.
