Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet, maybe a little more compact than the Echézeaux. The grippy palate is medium-bodied and muscular compared to the Echézeaux, with dark berry fruit, touches of pain d’épices and a slightly savory finish. This will need time.Inc. TAX€520.93 -
Vinous (93)
Deep red. Sappy aromas of black cherry, clove and chocolate. Rich, full and deep; wonderfully sweet and silky, if not quite as primary as the Clos Vougeot. Spectacular middle-palate fruit and layered texture. Finishes with very refined, sweet tannins and great palate-staining persistence.Inc. TAX€1,258.50 -
Vinous (94+)
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time.Inc.
