On this night, it is positively dazzling and every bit as profound as it has always been. The Cannubi has really soared in recent years as proprietor Fabio Alessandria has brought it inline stylistically with his other wines. |

Mesmerizingly vivid and beautiful, the 2014 is deep, powerful and beautifully layered on the palate, with fabulous balance and irresistible allure. In this tasting, I find the Cannubi fleshier and more generous than the Monvigliero. In the cool vintage, the exposure and soils of Cannubi were probably a bit more favorable than those of Monvigliero. Incidentally, a recent bottle of the 2013 more than lived up to the lofty praise I bestowed upon it a year ago. |

Plush tannins float through the finish, as does its long-lasting fruit perfume. Time in bottle has helped the elements meld together nicely. Even so, the 1996 remains virile and imposing in style. With a little bit of air, the 1996 can be enjoyed now, but it has plenty of life ahead. Hints of orange peel, tobacco and spice add to the deeply expressive, exotic finish. Readers who own it should be thrilled. In 1996, the Monvigliero is an exotic, beguiling Barolo that emphasizes power over finesse. Part of that is the personality of the year, but the wines have also improved markedly over the last two decades. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)Jeweled ruby in color, the 2020 Barolo Cannubi is very attractive on the nose, revealing aromas of raspberry liqueur, pink peppercorn, fresh roses, and toasted anise. Medium-bodied, it’s approachable and fresh, with a rounded midpalate and a weightless feel while having good concentration. Plush tannins float through the finish, as does its long-lasting fruit perfume. This is one of my favorite wines from Cannubi in this vintage and tasted over several days it continued to over-deliver. Drink 2024-2040. |

Vinous (96)Burlotto's 1996 Barolo Monvigliero presents a decidedly dark profile of fruit because of the cold growing season. At twenty years of age, the 1996 remains young, powerful and full of life. Time in bottle has helped the elements meld together nicely. Even so, the 1996 remains virile and imposing in style. With a little bit of air, the 1996 can be enjoyed now, but it has plenty of life ahead. Hints of orange peel, tobacco and spice add to the deeply expressive, exotic finish. Readers who own it should be thrilled. In 1996, the Monvigliero is an exotic, beguiling Barolo that emphasizes power over finesse. Part of that is the personality of the year, but the wines have also improved markedly over the last two decades. |

Sculpted, precise and beautifully delineated throughout, the Monvigliero possesses striking precision from the very first taste. Vinification with whole clusters gives the Monvigliero its characteristic aromatic lift, but it is the overall finesse of the tannins and the wine's overall balance that stand out most. All the elements are perfectly balanced in a sublime Barolo endowed with tons of personality. The 2012 is pure pleasure to drink today, but it should develop beautifully for the next several decades. Next to some of the other recent versions, the 2012 is gracious and light on its feet. |
