In Provence, the birthplace of French rosé, vineyards such as Château d'Esclans, Domaines Ott, and Château Miraval craft some of the most sought-after rosé wines in the world. These vineyards are revered for their commitment to quality and their ability to capture the essence of Provence in each bottle. Provence rosés are known for their pale pink color, delicate aromas, and refreshing flavors of red fruits, citrus, and herbs.
Moving to the Rhône Valley, the region of Tavel shines as the home of exceptional rosé wines. Domaine de la Mordorée, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne, and Château d'Aquéria are among the renowned vineyards that produce rich and expressive Tavel rosés. These wines exhibit a deeper color and a more robust structure, showcasing flavors of ripe berries, floral notes, and a touch of spice.
In the Loire Valley, the vineyards of Sancerre and Anjou offer distinctive expressions of rosé. Domaine Vacheron and Domaine Guiberteau are known for their vibrant and mineral-driven Sancerre rosés, while Château de Brézé and Domaine des Roches Neuves produce elegant and complex Anjou rosés.
The region of Bandol in Provence is synonymous with powerful and age-worthy rosé wines. Domaine Tempier, Château Pibarnon, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon are celebrated for their structured and deeply flavored Bandol rosés, characterized by their depth, intensity, and ability to age gracefully.
France's rosé wines are celebrated for their versatility and ability to complement a wide range of cuisines. From fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes to summer salads and light appetizers, these wines offer a harmonious marriage of flavors that enhance any culinary experience.

James Suckling (99)A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better. |

James Suckling (99)This shows incredible depth of fruit with strawberry, cherry and phenolics. Full-bodied and layered with an incredible, three-dimensional element to the wine. This is so transparent and dynamic with dark fruit, yet it remains vivid and bright. Refined and precise, it goes on and on. Really savory, fresh and incredibly pinot-noir-like. What a wine. 13 years of maturation in the bottle. So drinkable now, but it will age for many years ahead. |

Vinous (98)The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé marks a return to a richer style of Rosé following the more ethereal 2008 Rosé. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice and pomegranate all build in a creamy, sensual DP Rosé that hits all the right spots. Over the last few years, Chef de Caves Vincent Chaperon and his team have lowered the still Pinot portion of the Rosé down to about 10% from a high of 28% or so, reached around 2004 and 2005. In 2009, the Rosé gains considerable textural presence from the generosity of the year. It is a superb Champagne. I preferred it to the 2008, which was also part of this tasting. |

Vinous (97+)The 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is every bit as captivating as it was last year, maybe even more so. At times powerful, but in other moments finessed, the 2006 constantly changes in the glass, revealing a different shade of its personality with every taste. Perhaps most importantly, the 2006 seems to have gained a level of precision and pure sophistication it did not show last year, when it was quite a bit less put together. Andreas Larsson (95)I must say that I was quite excited to taste the Champagne that everybody talked about, but no one tasted yet. A great reunion with my old friend, Rodolphe Péters whose champagne making skills are nothing less than exceptional. A ground-breaking style that blends Chardonnay from Côte de Blancs of which one part is the actual vintage, one part reserve wines and one part mature wines from bottle. The rosé part being Pinot Noir from Vertus made as a rosé de saignée blended just before bottling to keep the notion of youthful red fruity freshness. It shows a very gentle bright rosé colour and a vivid mousse with fine bubbles. The nose starts out elegantly – layered and nuanced with chalky notes, fresh hazelnut, marzipan, fresh butter, pink citrus and lemongrass. After some time in the glass the Pinot enters with aromas of crushed raspberry, cherry and pain d´épice. The palate is nicely built, showing great flavour intensity and an invigorating freshness. It´s classically bone dry (4,5 grams of dosage) with a chalky presence, balanced by a mellow creaminess. Flavours of marzipan, confit de citron and peach with layers of mature nuttiness and pastry. Elegantly built with great persistency and precision. Drinks truly well today but should certainly improve from further cellaring. |
