This comes from the Côte Brune and has plenty of tannins, medium to full body, gorgeous balance, and one heck of a great finish. It’s not for the early crowd though.

Another gorgeous wine from this team is the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Lieu-Dit Pignan, which is 100% Grenache from one of the top terroirs in the appellation. It doesn't have the sheer power of the 2019, but it's finer and more elegant, offering a thrilling nose of wild strawberries, blueberries, peppery herbs, spring flowers, and exotic spices. Just incredibly pure, medium to full-bodied, and ultra-fine, with a gorgeous finish, it can be drunk any time over the coming 10-15 years. It's a thrilling example of finesse-driven Grenache.

  • Georges Vernay Condrieu Coteau du Vernon 2009 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

Now we're talking! The 2009 Condrieu Coteaux du Vernon ranks up there with some of the greatest Condrieus I've ever had. Deep, rich, full-bodied and unctuous, it offers a kaleidoscope of Condrieu goodness in its honeyed apricot, lychee, crushed rocks, white flowers and sauteed peach aromas and flavors. Now at age 6, it's still as vibrant and fresh as the day it was bottled, yet it's gained even more depth and texture. Given its concentration and structure, if you're so inclined to age bottles, this is the one to pick.
  • Georges Vernay Condrieu Coteau du Vernon 2017 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

Vivid straw-yellow. Intense, sharply delineated aromas of fresh nectarine, pear, candied orange and pungent flowers, along with a smoky mineral topnote. Stains the palate with honeysuckle flavors, ripe orchard and pit fruit that show outstanding definition and become deeper with air while maintaining vivacity. The mineral and floral qualities repeat emphatically on a strikingly long, sharply focused finish that leaves juicy pear liqueur and floral notes behind.

    Jeb Dunnuck (98)

Lastly, the 2019 Condrieu Coteau De Vernon comes from a steep, southeast-facing hillside of granite soils and is brought up a mix of 15% new barrels and foudres. The foudres were introduced in 2012 and I think contribute to slightly more tension and vibrancy in the wines. Peach, crushed citrus, spicy wood, and crushed stone notes all define the nose, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, wonderful overall balance, integrated acidity, and one hell of a great finish. A reference point Condrieu if there ever was one, it will benefit from a year or two in bottle then have a gradual evolution over the following decade. These can unquestionably age for decades, in fact. Nevertheless, I prefer them from a year or two after the vintage and over the following 4-5 years.

  • Georges Vernay Condrieu Les Chaillees de L'Enfer 2022 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Picked in early September, the 2022 Condrieu les Chaillees de l'Enfer is one of the standouts this year, as is so often the case, unfurling in the glass with aromas of almond blossoms, pear, white peach, chamomile and fresh flowers, giving the sensation of a cold vintage’s aroma profile despite the dry, hot conditions of the year. Full-bodied, dense and rich, it's perfectly balanced with a satiny attack, a broad, fleshy core of fruit and a long, demonstrative and quite elegant finish. It's a terrific effort that transcends the vintage.
