Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)
Deep, saturated ruby. Mute nose hints at cassis, violet and woodsmoke. Huge and primary in the mouth; the palate is inundated by a wave of almost confectionery fruit. But there also firm acidity and powerful underlying structure. Very fresh and unevolved for the vintage but harmonious from the start. Utterly seamless. Finishes with lush, melting tannins. An extraordinary showing for this wine, and as impressive as any '97 Hermitage I tasted in early December.Inc. TAX€547.50 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-90)
Three compnents tasted from barrel. Cinsault: Perfumed strawberry, smoke and game aroma. Intensely flavored, ripe and firm, with good acidity and finesse for '97. Grenache: Deeper red. Spicy cherry aroma. Fairly large-scaled but juicy. Plenty of palate presence. Another sample of grenache, at 15% alcohol: Riper red fruit, smoke and pepper aromas. Fatter and sweeter. Bigger tannic structure but less finesse. Should make a very rich Côtes du Rhône.Inc. TAX€6,359.82 -

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)
Two component cuvées tasted.Cuvée #1 (20- to 30-year-old vines picked late): Medium red. Explosive aromas of raspberry liqueur, fresh cherry and smoke. Very rich, almost liqueur-like, with hints of leather and game. Impressively ripe and deep. Has sound acidity and a firm tannic underpinning.Cuvée #2 (from a higher percentage of older vines, picked earlier): Deeper red. Much less forthcoming on the nose. More intensely flavored and powerful, with excellent grip and structure for the year. Strong peppery quality in the mouth and on the aftertaste. Tannins are substantial but ripe. A robust sample. The combination of these two cuvées should produce a strong wine.Inc. TAX€2,151.73
