Famous vineyards such as La Landonne, La Mouline, and Les Bessards are revered for their exceptional expressions of Syrah.
In the southern Rhône Valley, Grenache takes centre stage, contributing to the region's bold and fruit-forward red blends. The renowned appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is famous for its rich and full-bodied red wines, often featuring a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Vineyards like Château de Beaucastel, Clos des Papes, and Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe produce remarkable wines that showcase the region's commitment to excellence.
The Rhône Valley is also celebrated for its white wines, particularly in the northern part of the region. Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne are the key grape varieties, producing aromatic and complex whites. Appellations like Condrieu and Hermitage produce exceptional white wines known for their floral aromas, stone fruit flavors, and vibrant acidity.

Wine Advocate (95+)While the Cote Blonde gives me a touch of concern, I've no such reservations with the 2013 Cote Rotie Cote Brune, which comes from a parcel previously owned by Marius Gentez, which was replanted by Rene in 2000. Upfront, expressive and complex aromatically with sensational notes of black fruits, plums, violets, peach pit and orange blossom, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a loaded mid-palate and building tannin -- all of which suggest it will benefit from short term cellaring. This beauty will have 20-25 years of longevity. This was another terrific visit with Rene Rostaing, and he's hit gold in both 2012 and 2013. In fact, he may have fashioned the wines of the vintage in 2013 and I was blown away by the depth and richness these showed. There are few people doing Côte Rôtie better than this guy. |

Wine Advocate (95)About as voluptuous and sexy a la Landonne as I've tasted from Rene, the 2013 Cote Rotie la Landonne excels in the vintage and offers rock star notes of violets, black and blue fruits, olive and pepper. Full-bodied, layered, beautifully concentrated and with ripe tannin, it needs 4-5 years of cellaring and will keep for two decades or more. |

Wine Advocate (93)Another wine that doesn’t lack for structure, the 2013 Gigondas Le Claux (99% Grenache and 1% Syrah) offers lots of camphor, graphite, ground pepper and limestone-like minerality to go with a medium to full-bodied, very fresh, focused and elegant style on the palate. As with the Hominis Fides, it shows more tannic grip with time in the glass, and will benefit from short term cellaring. |
