Burghound (93-95)(Don't Miss! Outstanding) Firm reduction renders the nose unreadable at present. Otherwise, the palate impression of the markedly intense larger-bodied flavors is a bit denser with good power and an almost pungent minerality, all wrapped in a compact and hugely long finish that is noticeably more complex. This is very promising and while the 2021 Cros won't rival the best vintages of this storied wine, it's more than respectable. |

Vinous (91-93)(Rouget ages his crus in 100% new oak): Bright red. Aromas of redcurrant, spicy oak and violet. Dense and sappy in the mouth, offering attractive spicy lift to the cranberry and redcurrant flavors. Subtler and finer than the village wine, and showing a firm mineral underpinning, but also oakier in the early going. This will need patience. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru, matured entirely in new oak, offers a mixture of red and black fruit on a nose that is harmonious yet reserved, revealing hints of mushroom and sous-bois in the background. The lightly spiced palate is smooth on the entry, offering silky tannin and a fine bead of acidity, leading to a precise, harmonious finish. Hints of cassis and crushed stone linger on the finish. A classy Les Beaumonts. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has a quintessential floral bouquet with pressed violet infusing the red fruit, veins of blood orange emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with palpable energy. Taut and fresh, this is a Vosne-Romanée Village that displays wonderful focus and might be my pick of Rouget’s wines if price is factored in. Recommended. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village is perfumed, floral and pure on the nose with wilted violet petals infusing the red fruit - très Vosne. The palate is silky smooth with a fine body. This sample is taken from a new barrel so it has some François Frères imprint on the finish, but there is appreciable focus and length. |

Behold the Esprit Leflaive Nuits-Saint-Georges 2018, a timeless French treasure produced by the acclaimed Domaine Leflaive. Originating in the prestigious Burgundy region, this noteworthy Pinot Noir encapsulates the essence of its famed terre de Nuits. Vineyards, shielded by Combe Lavaux, benefit from a unique microclimate, facilitating the production of this stunning vintage. The fruit is rigorously sorted and entirely de-stemmed before a cold maceration and fermentation, utilising natural yeasts in temperature-controlled vats. Post-fermentation, the wine matures for 16 months in French oak barrels. The Esprit Leflaive Nuits-Saint-Georges 2018 stands as a testament to Leflaive's commitment to biodynamic practices, exuding organic elegance and layered complexity. Intricate notes of ripe cherries, violets and spices unfold on the palate, orchestrated with supple tannins and weighty depth. Leflaive's mastery culminates in a long, gracefully toasted finish. Truly, a sublime expression of Nuits-Saint-Georges' splendour. |

Vinous (94+)Good medium red. Subtle, pure, high-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry, violet and licorice. Chewy, intense and penetrating, with plenty of stem-driven energy behind the saline, soil-driven flavors of minerals, dark berries and graphite. There's no easy sweetness here, but this builds impressively in the glass and leaves the taste buds quivering on the very long, lightly peppery back end. These firm tannins will need a decade of patience. Like the Grands-Echezeaux, this wine was aged in 80% to 90% new oak. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)(25% vendange entier): Good bright red with ruby tones. Precise aromas of black cherry, licorice and herbs. Spicy and penetrating on the palate; a bit strict but offers a great combination of sweetness and minerality. At once classy and powerful, finishing with a lingering element of saline minerality and firm, noble tannins that saturate the entire mouth. |

Vinous (95)(25 hectoliters per hectare): Full, dark red. Tight, primary, slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and minerals. Densely packed, rich and broad; a distinctly horizontal, pliant style of Clos Vougeot, no doubt a function of the very warm, sunny vintage. Today this is sweeter and more open-knit than the Grands-Echézeaux but both of these wines should easily age for two decades or more. (Mallard noted that on some days this wine comes across as stricter, more Cistercian.) Finishes with spicy, ripe tannins and terrific energy and length. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of dark cherry fruit, black currant, crushed stone and light iodine aromas, very pure and seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good acidity, the whole cluster (70%) lending a touch of pepperiness toward a finish that is precise and persistent. Superb. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is limpid in appearance. The bouquet is very refined and offers the most fruit intensity of all d’Eugénie’s cuvées, a mixture of red and black fruit plus light touches of oyster shell and fish scales. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. Quite a masculine and sturdy Clos de Vougeot, it will need 4–6 years to smooth its edges. But I appreciate the persistence on the aftertaste, residues of white pepper and clove lingering on the tongue. Excellent. |

Decanter (97)Powerful dark plum and cassis fruit, with impressive structure and power. Despite the stuffing, this wine never loses sight of its elegance. Bravo! Domaine d’Eugénie is the current proprietor of this parcel which was once owned by Domaine René Engel. It is a 1.34ha plot that averages 60-70 years of age even with some interplanting; the youngest vines are all declassified. The parcel is not far from the Mugneret-Gibourg vines, but the style is very different. 70% whole-cluster. |
