The 2017 Citran has a powerful nose of black fruit laced with peppermint and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and perhaps more refinement than suggested by the aromatics. As it coheres in the glass, this turns into a very fine Haut-Médoc that is probably punching above its weight. Very fine.Inc. TAX€298.27 -

The 2018 Citran has retained its well-defined, marine-influenced nose of black fruit infused with seaweed and oyster shells but is less diffuse than it was out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little foursquare, perhaps, but fresh and showing more cohesion and complexity on the finish compared to some of its peers. Good show. And maybe it will improve further.Inc. TAX€286.27 -

This is the generic Bordeaux from the Domaine Clarence Dillon. When they first told me about this, I thought it was probably not the best idea in the world, but the quality of the wine speaks for itself. I think they have been right on the money with what they have achieved with this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby/purple, with notes of Graves-like scorched earth, charcoal and blackcurrants, this wine is dense, medium-bodied, quite supple and rich. Despite its precociousness, it clearly has capacity, with this depth and structure, to age 7-10 years.Inc. TAX€477.07 -

The 2015 Clarke has an attractive blackberry and briary scented nose with just a hint of dark chocolate emanating from the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, the acidity nicely judged with fine tension on the cedar and tobacco-tinged finish. I appreciate the freshness and refinement demonstrated by this Château Clarke, a classic Listrac that should give 10-12 years of pleasure.Inc. TAX€401.09 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)
The 2018 Clarke is a potent wine. A blast of dark red cherry fruit, iron, smoke, grilled herbs and menthol makes a strong opening statement. Readers should plan on being patient, as the 2018 is going to need a number of years to soften. Even so, it is pretty impressive today. Cedar, leather and game add aromatic nuance, but Clarke is ultimately a pretty rich, potent Listrac that just needs time. The only question is how much.Inc. TAX€272.14 -

The 2020 Clarke has a classically-styled bouquet with strict blackberry, graphite and mint aromas that might lead you towards Pauillac instead of Listrac. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, well balanced with a fresh line of acidity. The oak is neatly assimilated on the finish that feels smooth and enticing. This is an excellent Château Clarke.Inc. TAX€265.68 -

The 2016 Clauzet offers rich and opulent dark cherry and blueberry fruit on the nose, more floral than earthy compared to its peers, but with commendable delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry and I appreciate how those slightly rigid Saint Estèphe tannins provide the backbone here. It will need three of four years to mellow in the glass, but this has great potential.Inc. TAX€237.36 -
