Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2015 Aile d'Argent Blanc has a lively, quite fresh bouquet with scents of pear, melon and touches of yellow flowers; there is plenty of energy here. The palate is well balanced with a spicy, lemongrass-tinged opening, not deep or voluminous but displaying a pleasant sharpness toward the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade, or possibly more. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Beautiful intensity and grip through the palate, this shows white pear, juicy citrus, and slate-filled salinity on the finish. Great stuff, with teasingly drawn out flavours, lift and tension, and hidden depths. Some frost meant the yields were lower than normal at 32hl/h. 15% malolactic fermentation to soften the acidities, with Sauvignon Gris vines included within the Sauvignon Blanc count, and no Muscadelle in the blend as the vines have now been uprooted, giving a slight break in style (for the better in my opinion). 3.25ph, 45% new barrels for ageing. First year with Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy as director from beginning to end of the growing season, after Philippe Dhaulluin's retirement. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)This château makes a fabulous white. Their 2023 Château Mouton Rothschild Aile D'Argent Blanc is based on 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 44.5% Semillon, and a splash of Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, raised in 45% new oak. Ripe pineapple, crushed citrus, white flowers, and hints of toast all emerge from this beauty. A richer, medium-bodied, vibrant white that will shine on the dinner table, it should also have well over a decade of prime drinking. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2020 Château d'Aiguilhe Blanc has an understated bouquet that has closed up since I tasted it from barrel. Light aromas of honeysuckle and jasmine surface with aeration but refuse to click into fifth gear. The palate is well balanced with a lively, Sancerre-like entry with Anjou pear and gooseberry. Sharp acidity, but not shrill, this has fine tension with a very clever and subtle reduction on the finish. Very fine. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2017 Carmes de Rieussec is dazzling. Here, too, the winemaking team captured a striking balance of richness and energy. Most second wines from Sauternes these days are light and floral. The Carmes has plenty of those qualities, but it is far from an easygoing Sauternes; rather it packs a serious punch. Lemon confit, passion fruit, exotic flowers and mint meld into the creamy, resonant finish. |

Vinous (90-93)Lemon confit, white flowers and mint are all laced throughout the 2017 Carmes de Rieussec. Fresh and light on its feet, with notable vibrancy, the Carmes hits all the right notes. The balance here is simply unreal, especially for a second wine. Picking a bit earlier and an increased emphasis in freshness is felt throughout the Rieussec range, but it is especially felt in the Carmes, a mid-weight, super-finessed wine that offers tons of depth while also staying light on its feet. |

A triumphant example of post-war vintages, the Champon-Segur 1947 is an exquisite relic from Bordeaux's heralded Saint-Estèphe appellation. It hails from the renowned Château Calon-Ségur vineyard; a grand terroir that has cultivated prestigious wines since the 18th century. The Champon-Segur 1947 beautifully demonstrates the freshness and vivacity of that historical year's harvest. Graced by time, it presents alluring, developed flavours of dried fruit, truffle, and earth, woven together by charming maturity and soft tannins. Masterfully cultivated on gravelly terraces, the vintage was precisely vinified using traditional methods, and then aged in French oak barrels, imbuing an enticing complexity. At every sip, the Champon-Segur 1947 kindles a tasting experience that is rich, refined, and infinitely memorable. Crafted for the discerning palate, this remarkable wine is sure to satiate your desire for vintage excellence, making Champon-Segur 1947 a worthy addition to any distinguished collection. |
