The 2020 La Cour d'Argent is a terrific Bordeaux Superieur. Black cherry, chocolate, dried herbs and leather lend striking energy to this flavorful Merlot-based red. Incisive tannins need time to soften, but there is enough sheer density to make me think that all the 2020 requires is patience. This is an impressive effort from Denis Barraud. Tasted two times.

The 2018 Château de la Dauphine was a knockout when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a very clean, precise bouquet of shimmering blackberry and wild strawberry aromas, underlying blood orange notes coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, plenty of graphite-tinged black fruit and a very elegant yet long finish. Superb!

    (12x75cl) 2005

    Wine Spectator (92-94)

Lots of spices, lemon rind and honey follow through to a thick, full-bodied palate. Long finish. Dense and sweet. Score range: 92-94
  • Chateau de Malle 2007 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2007

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-92)

Pineapple dominates the nose. Clean, juicy and penetrating, with very intense, pure flavors of pineapple and honey. In its power, this reminded me of a 2001. Finishes with terrific lingering fruit.

  • Chateau de Millery 2018 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)

The 2018 Millery is magnificent. Rich, layered and sumptuous, Millery dazzles from the very first taste. The warm vintage has given this typically reserved Saint-Émilion an extra kick of richness that works so well here. Inky red fruit, blood orange, mint, spice, cedar and new leather are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop in the glass. Silky, perfectly ripe tannins wrap it all together. This is such a sexy Saint-Émilion.

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years. This is a selection of some of our favourite vintages from Bordeaux over the last few decades, as well some more recent ones.
