Displays crushed Merlot grapes on the nose, and lovely pure, grapey fruit character. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and lots of fruit. A little one-dimensional, but I really appreciate the concentration. Score range: 90-93 -JSInc. TAX€110.04 -
(12x75cl) 2017Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2017 Bourgneuf has really gained in density over the course of its élevage, while remaining as restrained and understated as it always is. Pliant, silky and wonderfully nuanced with lovely aromatic top notes, Bourgneuf is one the undiscovered jewels in Pomerol - and in Bordeaux more broadly. Expressive floral and savory notes add aromatic dimension but in 2017, Bourgenuf stands out for its textural depth and resonance, both of which are pronounced to a degree I have not seen previously. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to soften. It is such a gorgeous wine. Tasted three times.Inc. TAX€628.75 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
The 2018 Bourgneuf is positively stellar. Silky, nuanced and so full of character, the 2018 impresses with its total finesse. Silky tannins and beautifully lifted aromatics give this mid-weight Pomerol so much class. Lavender, spice, mint, dried herbs and a touch of new oak are all laced into a core of inky blue/purplish berry fruit. This is another stellar effort from a château that has been seriously on the rise over the last few vintages.Inc. TAX€744.67 -

Excellent clarity and linearity here, this is direct and precise with a focus all the way through. (12x37.5cl) 2020Vinous - Neal Martin (93)
The 2020 Bourgneuf has closed up a little on the nose post-bottling: blackberry, graphite, subtle loamy aromas and just a whiff of sea spray. Fine delineation and commendable complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, quite structured and perhaps more "serious" than its showing from barrel. Generous helpings of cracked black pepper enliven the second half, firm grip with a very nicely proportioned finish. This is an excellent Bourgneuf that should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure.Inc. TAX€371.74 -

Jeb Dunnuck (94+)
Coming from the southern edge of the appellation, not far from Cheval Blanc and Figeac in Saint-Emilion, the 2022 Château Bourgneuf is deep ruby/plum-hued and has a ripe, powerful style in its darker currants, chocolaty oak, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. A big, rich, layered Pomerol that fills the mouth with fruit, it has terrific overall balance, a lush, opulent style, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and will see its 20th birthday in fine form. It's a beautiful, rich, fruit-loaded beauty based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.Inc. TAX€411.34 -

Structured and dense, the wine has bold blackberry fruits and tannins like velvet. It is full-bodied with great acidity as well as generous fruitiness. One of the best from this estate.Inc. TAX€475.16 -

The 2017 Bouscaut does not quite reveal the same precision and detail on the nose as some of its peers, though it does improve with aeration showing humidor and espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins and supple in texture. An understated, pliant finish renders this quite approachable. Drink over the next 5 to 7 years.Inc. TAX€170.39 -

I loved the 2020 Château Bouscaut. It has an incredible nose of pure cassis and black raspberries interwoven with notes of violets, tobacco, sous bois, and ample spicy background oak. Just a classic Graves on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, lots of classic minerality, scorched earth nuances, ripe tannins, and a great finish, it’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years or more. I love the balance, and this is unquestionably a wine well worth seeking out.Inc. TAX€249.34 -

Jancis Robinson (16.5)
Dark, glowing crimson. Quite a rich, ripe nose. Suave palate with sufficient fruit (I wonder why their Merlot did so well?) and yet some bordeaux rigidity. Bone dry! Classic build that will always need food but the structure is fine. It’s just a little lacking density.Inc. TAX€436.27
