All Sauvignon from the massal selection for Sancerre, the 2017 Guinaudeau Vignerons Les Champs Libres Blanc comes from the top of the plateau in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, which is all limestone soils. It offers a touch more richness and depth than the Grand Village Blanc and has lots of lemon curd, crushed rock, and salty minerality on the nose. The team at Lafleur makes two whites. The 2021 Château Grand Village is 73% Sauvignon and 27% Semillon, and this will be the first vintage made in the new cellars at Grand Village. It's also the first year where it was vinified at cooler temperatures, which might have resulted in the incredible purity and precision in this beauty. Pineapple, flowers, hints of banana (which I've no doubt will dissipate over the course of its élevage), and chalky, salty notes give way to a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, crystalline white that's well worth seeking out.In Bond€192.00 -

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
