    Wine Advocate (92)

A brilliant effort (along with the 2000, one of the finest I have yet tasted from this estate), this 1,000 case blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot is fashioned by Jonathan Malthus. Most of the Cabernet Franc emerges from a vineyard near Angelus. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a striking perfume of menthol, blueberries, red currants, and minerals. Elegant, concentrated, and ripe, but neither overly weighty nor excessively heady, it is a stylish, Burgundian-like, vivacious St.-Emilion with tremendous aromatic complexity and flavors. It should be at its finest in 2-3 years, and last for 14-15.

  • Le Dome 2005 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

From the famous flagship estate of Jonathan Malthus, this wine normally has about 75% or more Cabernet Franc in the blend and the rest Merlot. With the great aromatic expression of the vintage, the 2005 Le Dôme offers up a smashing fireworks-like display of spring flowers, blueberries, forest floor, raspberries and cherries. Dense purple in color, medium to full-bodied, light on its feet, but super-intense and rich, this wine performed fabulously well, and is one of the superstars and profound efforts of the vintage. It is actually somewhat approachable, which is not always the case with many 2005s. Drink it over the next 20 years.

  • Le Dome 2009 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

One of the most distinctive wines made in Bordeaux, Le Dome has one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Franc of any claret I can think of. Composed of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, it exhibits a certain delicacy and elegance (due to the Cabernet Franc component) in addition to resounding power, concentration, depth and multidimensional personality. Black/purple to the rim, it offers strikingly intense notes of spring flowers, raspberries, mulberries and wood smoke, medium to full body, sweet tannin and a cunning intensity and texture that suggest finesse and delicacy. However, the wine’s richness, length and lingering depth build incrementally in this exceptional St.-Emilion. It will be drinkable in 4-5 years and should age for two decades or more. This is Jonathan Malthus’ finest wine to date.

This deeply colored 2017 has a spicy, complex style as well as medium to full body, lots of red, black, and blue fruits, building tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. The 2018 Le Dome is composed of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, with a 3.82 pH and 14.3% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it is a little coy in the beginning, requiring considerable coaxing to allow fragrant earth, rose hip tea, preserved plums and raspberry pie notions to emerge, giving way to notes of pencil shavings, woodsmoke and camphor. Full-bodied, firm and finely grained, the profound palate is sparked by energetic mineral and red fruit notes, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and just enough acidity to lift the very long, very fragrant finish.

  • Le Dome 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (97-99)

This magnificently situated parcel of old-vine Cabernet Franc continues to impress. It is intensely perfumed in smoky black fruits, displaying a dark, tight structure that leads through to finely textured tannins. The wine's acidity and succulent ripeness come through strongly. This is for long-term aging.

  • Le Dome 2023 (6x75cl)
    (6x75cl) 2023

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (97)

The 2023 Le Dôme is magnificent. Vibrant red-toned fruit, pomegranate, leather, mocha and dried herbs soar from the glass. Layered and supple, with magnificent balance, the 2023 is just superb. Its purity is really something. Seamless, polished tannins wrap it all up in style. I look forward to seeing how this ages.
  • Le Dragon de Quintus 2015 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2015

    James Suckling (93-94)

The second wine of Quintus shows so much chili, spice and tile aromas and flavors. Full body, very long finish. Stunning.
  • Le Dragon de Quintus 2016 (1x150cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (93)

Dominated by Merlot, this is a richly perfumed, ripe and spicy wine. Soft tannins are balanced by plenty of acidity and blackberry fruit. It's full in structure, but still allows plenty of room for the fruit.

  • Le Dragon de Quintus 2017 (3x150cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)

The 2017 Le Dragon de Quintus is plump and racy in the glass, with lovely up-front dark fruit, spice, mocha and leather notes that give the wine so much immediacy and sheer allure. Élevage has done wonders for the 2017, which, from bottle, is richer and deeper than it was from barrel. The bold, ripe style of Quintus comes through nicely in this second wine.

  • Le Dragon de Quintus 2023 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2023

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)

The 2023 Le Dragon de Quintus is a succulent, fleshy second wine. Plush contours frame a core of dark cherry fruit, lavender, rose petal, chocolate and mocha. This builds nicely through the creamy mid-palate and into the long, resonant finish. Drink this racy Saint-Émilion over the next decade or so.

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years. This is a selection of some of our favourite vintages from Bordeaux over the last few decades, as well some more recent ones.
