Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 1992 Ausone is an off-vintage that I had never tasted before. It was actually better than expected. The nose is agreeable with only a slight greenness underneath those tobacco tinged black fruit, a touch of bacon fat emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with coarse tannin, rather ferrous and smudged, earthy with a short finish. It has its shortcomings although it does improve in the glass, gaining more cohesion and vigour, so don’t write it off. Tasted at the Ausone vertical in London. |

Exquisite and profound, the Boyd-Cantenac 1992 boasts the sophistication true wine aficionados covet. This Bordeaux blend hails from the prestigious Margaux appellation, where it was meticulously curated by the venerable Chateau Boyd-Cantenac, a 3rd growth estate revered for its traditional winemaking methods. The blend was vinified in thermoregulated stainless-steel vats before embarking on 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels, enhancing its elegance and complexity. This care resulted in a deep, ruby-hued wine that decants impeccably balanced notes of dark fruits, leather and tobacco, cascading into a finish of refined tannins. With its commendable structure, the Boyd-Cantenac 1992 provides a considerable ageing potential and will reward those with the patience to cellar it. A testament to its respected terroir, this vintage captures the essence of Bordeaux viticulture, providing insight into a moment of exceptional winemaking. |

Wine Advocate (91)Lafleur has fashioned a blockbuster wine in 1992 that must be tasted to be believed. After seeing so many diluted, light, soft wines, it is hard to believe the level of concentration Lafleur achieved. Lafleur's color is an impressively saturated dark purple/black. The tight nose offers up sweet cassis and jammy black-cherry scents, intertwined with aromas of Asian spices and minerals. The wine possesses great richness, medium to full body, admirable density, layers of ripe fruit that linger on the palate, considerable tannin, and remarkable length. This would be a great wine in any vintage, but in 1992 it is a remarkable achievement. An amazing wine for the year! Anticipated maturity: 2000-2015. |

Wine Advocate (88)The 1992 Mouton has fashioned a flattering, soft, opulently-styled wine with medium body, a healthy dark ruby/purple color, and a big, fragrant nose of jammy cassis, smoky oak, and roasted herbs and nuts. The wine offers a sweet, expansive mid-palate and a lush, velvety-textured finish. It is an ostentatious, flashy Mouton for drinking over the next 10-12 years. |

Wine Advocate (90)The 1992 Petrus is clearly one of the two candidates for the wine of the vintage. The normal production of 4,500 cases was severely reduced to only 2,600 cases, resulting in an atypically concentrated, powerful, rich wine with a dark, saturated ruby/purple color, a tight but promising nose of sweet black-cherry fruit, vanillin, caramel, and herb-tinged mocha notes. Concentrated and powerful, with superb density of fruit and richness, as well as wonderful sweetness to its tannin, this is a brilliant effort for the vintage. The wine requires 3-5 years of cellaring and should keep for 15-20+. |
