Vinous - Neal Martin (97)The 2014 d'Yquem has a complex bouquet with buttered toast, almond, honey and peach skin aromas. It opens with greater zeal than its peers, there is more immediacy here. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, a finely tuned and satisfying Sauternes with style and grace, evincing great tension and mineral drive towards the finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)One of the undisputed stars of the vintage, the 2014 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a real stunner. Plush and beautifully textured, with lovely brightness and impeccable overall balance, the 2014 simply has it all. Lemon confit, baked apple tart, brioche and coconut are all pushed forward in this sensual, exquisite Sauternes. The 2014 is deep, but also quite silky and never a wine of excess. All the elements are simply in the right place. |

Wine Advocate (92+)Dark dense ruby/purple, with very little evolution to the color, Lafleur’s 1986 seems frozen in time, a structured, tannic, backward monster that still needs considerable cellaring. No matter how much airing I have given this wine, it does not ever seem to emerge from its cloak of tannin and structure. The fruit seems sweet, and the wine has Lafleur’s telltale notes of kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, minerals, flowers, and truffles. The wine is medium-bodied, weighty in the mouth, but so, so tannic and backward. Will it ever blossom? Anticipated maturity: 2008-2035. Last tasted, 8/02. |

Wine Advocate (91)Lafleur has fashioned a blockbuster wine in 1992 that must be tasted to be believed. After seeing so many diluted, light, soft wines, it is hard to believe the level of concentration Lafleur achieved. Lafleur's color is an impressively saturated dark purple/black. The tight nose offers up sweet cassis and jammy black-cherry scents, intertwined with aromas of Asian spices and minerals. The wine possesses great richness, medium to full body, admirable density, layers of ripe fruit that linger on the palate, considerable tannin, and remarkable length. This would be a great wine in any vintage, but in 1992 it is a remarkable achievement. An amazing wine for the year! Anticipated maturity: 2000-2015. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (100)The 1989 Petrus is consistent with previous bottles in the sense that it represents the apotheosis of not only the vineyard, but of Pomerol itself. It still provides that almost surreal cornucopia of aromas, red fruit melted with tar, tobacco, hints of camphor and ash, all delivered with astonishing precision. The palate is perfectly balanced, intense yet paradoxically weightless. This example is one of the finest I have encountered in terms of clarity and precision. Ethereal. If you want to taste a genuine 100-point wine then step this way. Magnificent! Tasted at the Petrus dinner at Hide restaurant in London and at Epure restaurant in Hong Kong. |
