Wine Advocate (95)From the luxury, 12-acre boutique outpost of the Neipperg family, the 2012 La Mondotte (generally 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc) has an inky/purple color, sweet mulberry, black cherry and cassis note, stunning purity and full-bodied texture. The wine’s opulence and voluptuous character compare to its greatest vintages, such as 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010. Its great terroir (clay and limestone soils) shines through with a stunning effort in the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)The 2012 La Serre offers lovely depth in a classic, understated style. Sweet spice, tobacco, dark berry, cherry pit leather and cedar flesh out in the glass. The 2012 is not especially complex, but it is a pretty Saint-Emilion to enjoy for its forward, inviting personality. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2005 La Tour Figeac is silky, gracious and so expressive. Red-toned fruit, mocha, cinnamon and flowers give the 2005 a good deal of aromatic lift to match its mid-weight personality. The finish narrows just a bit, but this is still a very pleasing, nuanced Saint-Émilion. At this point I would not push my luck too much on aging. The 2005 is a gorgeous wine that shows the more delicate side of Saint-Émilion. |

Wine Advocate (97)A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2012 La Violette has a very floral, blueberry and raspberry nose, inky purple color, exceptional texture, full-bodied richness and stunning purity, symmetry and palate presence. This is, possibly, the wine of the year. Unfortunately, there is so little of it available and it is virtually impossible to find. The vineyard is only 4.4 acres, the yields tiny, and usually the final blend includes at least 80% Merlot. Drink it over the next 20 years. |

Decanter (100)This stunning wine is still extremely young, with an amazingly expressive nose with tea leaf hints. The aromatics keep building and building in the glass, and the elegance and persistency shine through. This was a drought year, unusual because it was almost perfect from beginning to end with not a drop of rain from May to October. Temperatures were not hot like 2003, of course, so the ripening was slow and complete, with relatively small yields and relatively high alcohol. This is full of energy and the flavours just keep on going, while those tannis have really started to embrace the fruit and showcase their elegance. It's concentrated and luscious yet focussed and beautifully balanced - the perfect example of how they don't need excess to deliver something truly extraordinary in Bordeaux. |

Wine Advocate (91)Tasted blind at the Southwold 2012 tasting. The 2012 Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc felt as if it was burdened with too much new oak on the nose, though underneath lie some attractive citrus fruit mixed with peach and apricot skin. I will be optimistic and opine that the oak will be subsumed as long as it is afforded two or three years of cellaring. The palate is well balanced, the new oak lending creaminess and a slight nuttiness - indeed, blind you might almost mistake it for a Meursault. Partly it is because of the new oak, but I can still see how this has wide appeal and you end up being seduced. Tasted January 2016. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (100)The 2005 Latour was mind-blowingly profound in two recent tastings for this report. Deep and sensual to the core, the 2005 is utterly captivating. All the elements are so seamlessly put together. Graphite, crème de cassis, licorice, dark spice and lavender infuse the 2005 with so much energy. More than anything else, though, the 2005 is a Latour of texture and resonance. Even after several hours, the 2005 is fresh and full of energy. Wines like this are just life affirming. Decanter (97)This will be by far the biggest release since Latour brought in the new system, as the 2012 has not been on the market before. It's a good one to start with as this is a vintage where the drinking window is starting to come into view. This is pure liquorice, graphite and profoundly dark fruits, gourmet brushed damson and crushed stones, with a silky, appealingly open texture. The tannins are as bracing as you hope for from this estate, not giving an inch yet, but there is air between them and the structure is starting to loosen up. Harvest from September 24 to October 16, under rainy conditions after a super hot summer and early September that ensured the grapes stayed in good condition, but turned the concentration from impenetrable to an altogether more approachable style. |

Wine Advocate (93+)A very strong effort from this estate in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable, this 2012 (14.5% natural alcohol) has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of mocha, blackcurrants, and black cherries, and notes of truffle and earth. Full-bodied, ripe and one of the great successes from this estate over recent decades, the 2012 is a must-purchase for Pomerol enthusiasts. Silky tannins, superb concentration and a long, long finish suggest a good 20+ years of evolution at minimum. Bravo! |

Wine Advocate (95)A beautiful wine from Dany and Michel Rolland, this 2005 is surprisingly concentrated and powerful – more so than usual. Deep ruby/purple, with plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit, licorice and a touch of caramel, this wine is still full, youthful, and set for another 15-20 years of longevity. This is a beauty and one of their strongest efforts in the first decade of the 21st century. For a terroir considered well below Pomerol’s superstars, this wine is a major overachiever. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2005 Bahans Haut-Brion is the second wine from Haut-Brion, known today as Le Clarence. A huge, virile red, the 2005 exudes intensity from start to finish. Black cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, gravel and cured meats blast across the palate. The wine’s richness, heft and power are truly remarkable. Today, the 2005 comes across as shockingly young. This heady, exotic Pessac-Léognan has much to offer. It’s price naturally reflects its position as a second wine to a First Growth, yet the 2005 is a serious wine that has a ton to offer. |

The palate is well balanced, the new oak lending creaminess and a slight nuttiness - indeed, blind you might almost mistake it for a Meursault. Partly it is because of the new oak, but I can still see how this has wide appeal and you end up being seduced. Tasted January 2016. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)Possessing a terrific bouquet of saddle leather, wild herbs, cassis and coffee beans, the 2012 Lascombes is rich, full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured on the palate. With serious fruit intensity, ripe tannin and a great finish, this stacked Margaux will drink nicely for 10-15 years. |

That's about all I can really say. Tasted two times. |
