Jeb Dunnuck (100)Reminding me of the 2018 (as well as the 2009), if not slightly more concentrated, the 2022 Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the most opulent and flamboyant wines out of the Médoc in 2022, and it has incredible intensity while staying light on its feet and graceful. Its dense, glass-staining purple hue is followed by a sensational perfume of crème de cassis, graphite, darker chocolate, scorched earth, and flowers. Full-bodied on the palate, it brings extravagant levels of fruit as well as a seamless mouthfeel, beautifully integrated oak, tannins, and acidity, no hard edges, and a gorgeous finish. It shines even today, yet it has beautiful underlying structure and will evolve gracefully over the coming 30+ years. The 2022 is based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged 18-20 months in 80% new oak. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (98)Brilliant Poyferré, deep ruby colour, setting the scene for ink, campfire, espresso, mint, cassis and damson. Concentrated but with a delicious balance, this feels effortless and is truly a wine for Bordeaux lovers to seek out. Harvest September 14 to October 5. 80% new oak, 52hl/h yields, biggest since 2004, with more 1st wine than usual because the old Cabernet Sauvignon plots gave quality and quantity (after three low quantity years). Alix Combes new vineyard manager, replacing long time manager Bruno Clenet. |

Impeccably superior and boldly expressive, the Les Angelots de Villemaurine 2015 is a supreme embodiment of the Saint-Émilion wine region in Bordeaux France. Produced by a small, elite property that stretches merely over 2.12 hectares, the vineyard's dedication to artisanal winemaking echoes in every sip of this wine. The soil, predominantly clay and limestone, nourishes the50-year-old Merlot vines, contributing to the wine's distinct Bold and concentrated character. The vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, followed by a maturation in French oak barrels for 18 months, perfection is undoubtedly achieved. The Les Angelots de Villemaurine 2015 shimmers with deep ruby hues, delivering powerful notes of red and black fruits, intertwined with subtle undertones of sweet spice and licorice. Its rich, velvety tannins gracefully melt away to reveal a well-structured, persistent finish; a wonderful testament to its Grand Cru Classé status. Experience the Les Angelots de Villemaurine 2015, and immerse yourself in an enthralled journey through a classic Bordeaux vintage masterpiece. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (89)The 2019 Les Arums de Lagrange, the white cuvée from the Saint-Julien estate, offers attractive lime and yellow flower scents, a touch of almond in the background. The palate is nicely balanced with a dab of lemongrass on the entry. Moderate weight with discrete tropical notes sing from the wings on the finish. Enjoy over 3-5 years. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93)(from 80-year-old vines planted on thin clay soil over hard limestone): Full bright ruby. Medicinal black fruits and chocolate on the nose. Dense, plush and deep, with very ripe dark berry and chocolate flavors enlivened by chewy minerality. Can't quite match Le Carre for lift but this is every bit as concentrated and comes across as sweeter. Finishes with strong, building tannins and terrific length. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)The 2015 Les Astéries is a wine of pure and total allure. Much more satisfying from bottle than it was from barrel, the 2015 marries the natural intensity of the year and Jonathan Maltus's personal imprint with energy - a combination that dazzles from the very first taste. The dark cherry, espresso, mocha and licorice flavors bristle with power. Sumptuous in feel, but with good savory and mineral underpinnings from the Franc, the 2015 has much to offer. The blend is 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc. |

Wine Advocate (93+)Made of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet colored 2010 Les Carmes Haut-Brion gives up notes of baked blackberries, blackcurrants, black raspberries and cedar chest with hints of baking spices, black olives, pencil lead and Marmite toast. Full-bodied, the generously fruited palate has a solid backbone of grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting all that tightly-packed brawn, finishing with great length and purity. Still incredibly youthful, I suspect this wine has a lot more to give in the years to come! |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)A powerful, intense wine, the 2012 Les Carmes Haut-Brion exudes richness and depth. Game, smoke, tobacco, grilled herbs, black cherries and incense are some of the signatures. This explosive, powerful Pessac is going to need time to settle down, but it is exceptionally beautiful, even at this very early stage. Les Carmes Haut-Brion is marked by its high percentage of Cabernet Franc (38%) which is unusual in this part of Pessac, and its fabulous terroir. All of that is on full display here. Don't miss it! |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95+)One of the stars of the vintage, the 2014 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is total knock-out. Graphite, smoke, red cherry jam, spice, cured meat, pomegranate and tobacco are just some of the myriad sensations that race out of the glass. Today, the 2014 is gloriously ample on the palate, with remarkable nuance for a wine of its size. The Carmes Haut-Brion has been terrific in two recent tastings. The blend is 54 % Cabernet Franc, 32 % Merlot and 14 % Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged in oak, but with some influence of 500-liter tonneaux and 12-hectoliter casks. Simon Blanchard is the consulting oenologist. Tasted two times. |
