The 2017 Le Crock, always an unfortunate name, is a de facto delicious Saint-Estèphe that will appeal to those seeking a denser, more fruit-driven style in this vintage. It has not really changed since I tasted it from barrel with copious blackberry and raspberry coulis scents on the nose. The 25% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is weighty and muscular for this vintage with black fruit laced with cedar and hoisin, just a little headiness on the finish. Personally I would afford it another three or four years in bottle.Inc. TAX€474.67 -

The 2018 Le Crock offers plenty of Saint-Estèphe character in its brambly red berry fruit and burly, but well-balanced tannins. Cedar, tobacco, smoke and earthy notes add quite a bit of aromatic presence. This is an especially rich, potent edition because of dry, warm east winds that caused dehydration, thereby lowering yields. There is plenty of personality here.Inc. TAX€488.36 -

The 2019 Le Crock is a powerful, burly Saint-Estèphe. A rush of black cherry, scorched earth, licorice, tobacco and menthol makes a strong opening statement. Rich, virile and packed, the 2019 is big, hearty wine that shows the savory personality of Saint-Estèphe. The tannins are a bit coarse, but then again, that is to be expected. There is certainly a lot of wine here.Inc. TAX€570.67 -

Another impressive wine from this talented team, the 2021 Château Le Crock offers up beautiful darker berry and currant fruit interwoven with notes of leafy herbs, tobacco, and spice. With medium-bodied richness, a round, up-front, seamless mouthfeel, integrated tannins, and a great finish, I'd be thrilled to drink a bottle today, yet it should be even better with 2-4 years of bottle age and have 15+ years of overall longevity.Inc. Due to the high quality of all the parcels, there's no second wine from Château Le Crock in 2022. Full deep red. Alluring aromas of raspberry, coffee, brown spices and nutty oak. Lush, fruity and sweet; holds its shape nicely through to the firm, ripe finish. A very good sample. (12x75cl) 1998Chateau Le Moulin 1998 is an exquisitely crafted Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, hailing from the reputable winemaking region of Bordeaux, France. The producer utilises traditional vinification methods, using predominantly hand-harvested Merlot grapes, to deliver a robust and complex wine. Aged in French oak for a year, this vintage presents a rich, deep garnet colour, signifying its maturity. It strikes the senses with a delightful bouquet of dark chocolate and ripe red fruits with subtle hints of spice and oak. The well-integrated tannins impart a long-lasting finish. Chateau Le Moulin 1998 has elegantly evolved over the years, with its richness improved by storied complexity. As expected from a wine of its pedigree, it pairs perfectly with robust, meaty dishes. Appreciation for Chateau Le Moulin 1998 goes beyond mere consumption; every sip is a tribute to the meticulous craftsmanship and time-honoured tradition of its producer.

The 2017 Le Pape is soft, refined and super expressive. Dried flowers, mint, cedar, tobacco and mocha add pretty aromatic top notes to this precise, understated Pessac-Léognan. Medium in body and wonderfully nuanced, the 2017 is absolutely gorgeous. Bright floral and red fruit notes add brilliance with a bit of time in the glass. This is such a compelling, understated wine, not to mention an overachiever and a terrific value.Inc. TAX€186.94 -

The 2018 Le Pape is surprisingly gracious in this vintage. Floral notes lift sweet red berry fruit, cedar, licorice and mocha flavors as this stylish, mid-weight Pessac-Léognan shows off its considerable allure. Even with all of the natural richness of the year, Le Pape remains elegant and nuanced. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years to allow the tannins to soften. If enjoyed young, a few hours of aeration will do wonders.Inc. TAX€202.54 -

Lovely dark red fruits on the nose, a gorgeous sultry florality to it, something a little bit savoury too, pencil led and smoke - extremely welcoming. Great succulence on the palate, juicy and alive, really fresh with the charm of Merlot fully on show. Characterful, structured, mouthwatering and approachable with soft and smooth tannins. Seductive and so enjoyable. From a single 9ha block estate, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 900m away from Haut Bailly.Inc. TAX€199.68 -

The 2020 Le Pape was picked September 9–15. It is initially tight on the nose and only opens about an hour after opening (I spent the time chatting to Véronique Sanders via Zoom) to offer blackberry and wild hedgerow intermixed with light incense and pressed iris scents, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, beautifully balanced and very harmonious. There is a tincture of white pepper sprinkled over the finish that veers toward more red fruit in its final few bars. Excellent.Inc. TAX€185.03 -

The best Le Prieure I have ever tasted, this 2009 is a hedonist’s dream. Huge red and black fruit aromas soar from the glass of this deep ruby/purple-tinged beauty. One of the unquestioned Sleeper jewels of the year, the 2016 Le Prieuré is off the charts beautiful. Silky and impossibly refined, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total precision. Today, the 2016 is a bit more restrained than it was from barrel, when it was a more overt wine. That is not a bad thing, though, as I suspect the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Dark, beautifully perfumed and gracious, Le Prieuré represents the height of finesse in Saint-Émilion. Jean-Claude Berrouet consults for the Artemis Group, which is now the sole owner of Le Prieuré. The 2016 is a fabulous wine by any measure. Don't miss it.Inc. TAX€387.59 -
