One of the most successful wines of the vintage. Welcoming aromatics, carefully handled, creamy raspberry and blackberry fruits, gentle toasted pine nuts and cigar box smoke. You still get the lemongrass, slate tannins and acidites that are so signature to 2021, but also a sense of pull-and-push movement of the fleshy but fresh fruits through the palate, and hidden power. Good stuff. This is a vintage where you need the warm hug of a softly smoked oak barrel, and Thunevin knows how to administer it. 29hl/h yield, 3.5ph.Inc. TAX€915.98 -

Wow, this is really something. Very fruity, with dark blackberries and blueberries, as well as blood oranges. It’s full and layered with great depth of fruit and chewy, polished tannins. (6x75cl) 2012Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)
The 2012 Valandraud Blanc is Murielle Andraud's more textured white. Made from the estate's best fruit and vinified in barrel, the Blanc is quite a bit richer than the Virginie de Valandraud. Here the textures are rich, sensual and inviting, with an extra kick of gravitas that propels the powerful, resonant finish. Even with all of its intensity, the Blanc retains gorgeous freshness.Inc. Another gorgeous white from this team, the 2019 Château Valandraud Blanc sports a light gold hue as well as brilliant aromatics of fresh melon, subtle pineapple, white flowers, and beautiful, clean minerality. This carries to a more medium to full-bodied white that builds gradually with time in the glass, offering bright acidity, a terrific, concentrated mid-palate, remarkable purity of fruit, and a great finish. It's a stunning Bordeaux Blanc that's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage.Inc. TAX€919.36 -

The 2021 Château Valandraud Blanc is brilliant stuff and offers a gorgeous perfume of honeyed limes, mint, spicy herbs, and just a kiss of background oak. With medium-bodied richness, a focused, chiseled texture, and a gorgeous finish, it does everything right. It has bright acidity and rock-solid concentration and will benefit from a year or three in the cellar and have a decade or more of longevity.Inc. TAX€478.08 -

Quite one-dimensional, with soft, ripe plummy fruit, and some oaky aromas, the 1976 has average concentration, no noticeable tannin, and a pleasant, yet uninteresting finish. Anticipated maturity: Now--may be in decline. Last tasted, 7/83.Inc. TAX€826.58 -

The 1989 Vieux Château Certan has long been one of my favorite wines of that decade. The bouquet shows no signs of relinquishing that title with gorgeous black truffle, bay leaf, warm gravel and briary scents that are simply beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, warm earth on the entry, leather and truffle, great depth here with sublime precision on the finish, which is bridled with hints of mushroom and cloves. Maybe this is reaching its peak? Then again, it shows absolutely no signs of reaching the end of its plateau. This is nothing short of a wondrous Pomerol from Alexandre Thienpont. Tasted January 2016.Inc. TAX€3,347.56 -
(12x75cl) 1990Wine Advocate (92)
The 1990 Vieux Château Certan is drinking exceptionally well at the moment, although it does not quite possess the charm of the 1989. There is more primary fruit here than the previous vintage: black cherries, iodine and boysenberry, mingling with clove and tarry aromas that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is similar depth here to the 1989 and yet the finish does not quite deliver the same delineation, although that cheeky dab of kirsch is pure delight. This is a great VCC, although I did notice that over a period of an hour, it fails to keep pace with the ever-meliorating 1989. Tasted January 2016.Inc. TAX€4,870.19 -
